Teena Marie Reissues

Has anyone gotten any news about the upcoming Lady T reissues of Lady T and Irons in the Fire? There was a report earlier this year that they were supposed to be released sometime this summer along with the 2-CD rarities set of her Motown tenture.

Hip-O mentioned on Twitter they would be posting info about new releases soon, so I am assuming that includes these Teena Marie albums!

What I would love to have included on "Irons In The Fire" (but most likely won't be on it) is an instrumental version of "I Need Your Lovin' " which boasts one of my all-time favorite arrangements ever, by the genius that is Paul Riser.

That instrumental version of "I Need Your Lovin'" would be like heaven!

P.S. The 2-CD rarities is also available for pre-order on Amazon, but I'm not putting that in right now. Looks like this is gonna be one funky summer!

Did any of you buy the Epic remasters? Are they coming out in the US??

I've been wanting to get those imported remasters also, especially Robbery and Starchild, but my money ain't too tight right now. I wonder if those Epic remasters are actually remastered or use the same old tapes from the 80s and 90s? I don't need to buy records like Naked to the World or Ivory because they sound perfect to me.

Come on, move it up, "move it in, move it out ... Disco Lady." Dang! Happy about these re-issues, but they are delaying the movement of an unreleased album, Beautiful, until the middle of summer.

When I need an I Need Your Lovin' fix anymore I pull up her performance for Sindbad's Summer Jam. She freakin' killed that night. Yo Yo and the Butsin' Out mix - too tight. "Say, L / O / V / I / N!"

I think that the odds (50/50 is my call) are better than you think for inclusion of an instrumental version of INYL. I won't hold my breath, "cuz I just might turn blue," but we will see.

It's on Amazon but really far down the list (underneath the out of print stuff). Sounds interesting, though.

Doug Grisby reflects on Teena Marie. He speaks on her midway through and until the very end when he shows how hurt he is over his friends death. He implies so interesting things about Passion Play and Motown.

Can't WAIT for ALL of these reissues. I hope, TOO, that the current Japanese reissues of her Epic studio CD's become available domestically and for 1/2 the price. Those are a little too steep for MY pockets, anyway. Long LIVE the Ivory Queen of R&B. She's "up Yonder" throwin' down with Rick, Minnie, Dee Marie Warren and all the other kindred Funkspirits who came b4 her. smile

Hungry? Just look in the mirror and get fed up.

For some odd reason I cannot seem to pull up information on the song where Prince sampled Square Biz a few years back. Anybody here know the name of that song, please?

Album covers for reissues/compilation leaked today exclusively from Hip-O Select.com (5/27/11):

Album cover for rarities compilation:

excited YES! The album covers for Lady T and Irons In The Fire look crisper than ever and the color resolution is impeccable. The Rare Tee cover art is great as well. There will be more details each of the releases on Wednesday, June 1st, exclusively on Hip-O Select. The website is under construction now! Excited!

Here are some details that I know now about all of the releases by far exclusively from Harry Weigner:

- The reissues for Lady T and Irons In The Fire will include bonus versions of certain tracks, not previously unreleased material.

- 8 of the 12 tracks that were featured on the MP3 only release of First Class Love: Rare Tee will surface on the physical 2-CD compilation.

I hope there will be some worthy instrumentals on the reissues. I kinda have an idea of what might be on the rarities comp. Probably covers, worthy funk jams pre-Wild And Peaceful and beyond.

I figured they wouldn't have any previously unreleased songs on "Lady T" and "Irons In the Fire". That will be covered on the "Rare Tee" CD. Can't wait to get my hands on the "Rare Tee" disc. Think I'll skip the other two, though, since I already have the original pressings.

And tidbits on other Hip-o Select projects:

We’re doing a Wes Montgomery box set for Verve, his complete Verve recordings.

Teena Marie’s coming in June. The middle two albums [Lady T and Irons in the Fire (1980)], bonus tracks on each. No unreleased songs, but some unreleased versions. We’re physically expanding a 12-track compilation of rare Teena recordings on iTunes [First Class Love: Rare Tee] - the physical version will be two CDs, 8 of the 12 will be on there, and there’s more surprises.
