Aerosmith- Get A Grip

I revisited this album recently and i honestly like this album more & more each time i listen to it, i think i would put it with Aerosmith's greatest! despite the fact the album was HUGE success with the release of 7 singles many of which where top 40.

The reviews where mixed, the intro song Eat The Rich is perfect, it show's Joe perry's great riffing with Steven Tyler over the top dramatic delivery and humorous lyrics! the band can write some really funny stuff. Get A Grip the song should have had a video! what a funky song... can you jsut imagine Tyler doing some weird sexual dance moves with the skin & bones it such a pitty chorus lol

There was Gotta Love it which was a great rocking track!, there was the bluesy Crazy with the infamous video!, the kickass Shit Up & Dance. Amazing & Crying where both killer singles & videos.

Fever is another bluesy track and is my favorite off the album!

What do you other Aerosmith fans think? Great album or so so

Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

Get A Grip is pretty good. Pump was my first Aerosmith album and this was a good followup. I liked that the singles were so huge.

I think you may have hit the wrong key. wink

Get a Grip is ok but at the time I found it a little disappointing. I really dug Pump especially since I wasn't thrilled with Permanent Vacation but Get a Grip seemed a bit too scattered. The length of the album doesn't do it any favours.

Pump is a great way to start off! to me Pump was still better then Get A Grip, but Get A Grip was a great follow up there albums after are very hit & miss

I guess the thing that disappoints me with Get a Grip is that there really aren't any rock songs as good as the best ones on Pump. Get a Grip isn't slick and polished in the way that Permanent Vacation was but it does sound very professional. It was an extremely successful album and it's far from terrible but I can't help wishing that it had more life to it. I understand that bringing in outside songwriters was crucial to their success but it might have been better if those kinds of collaborations only took up half the record and Steven and Joe, with the odd contribution from Brad or Tom, handled the songwriting on the other half.

I much prefer Get A Grip to Pump and I've been playing the album a lot lately.

Eat The Rich / Get A Grip / Fever is my favourite opening to any Aerosmith album. The ballads are all excellent, Livin On The Edge is brilliant. I also really dig the one with Lenny Kravitz (Line Up). Okay, there's the occasional duff track, but on the whole I would say it's one of their strongest post-70s albums.

Its a good album, probably their second or third best album post 80. I really like some of the ballads over here

The reason i prefer Pump is simply because of its rawness. Songs like Voodo Medicine Man, F.I.N.E, and Young Lust are some of the finest hardrock i've ever heard. Get a grip is very good but they started to lose their rawness on this album

As for their best album overall, Its definately between Pump, Rocks and Toys in the Attic. Rocks is the rawest loudest record they've done with fantastic riffs, Toys in the attic has their best song overall and some stunning stuff, and Pump combines both commercial stuff and excellent raw hard rock.

Oh yeah toys is my all time favorite record by them you can't beat Uncle Salty, You See My Crying, Big Ten Inch Record, Adams Apple, Walk This Way, Toys In The Attic, Sweet Emotion.

My least favorite on the album eek

BUT! Still a fantastic song! that's like saying my least favorite song on Sign ''O'' The Times in the end it's still classic.

Strange, I thought there was universal agreement that "Round and Round" was the worst song on Toys in the Attic. wink

eek eek eek question

one of the songs that introduced american HEAVY-METAL nearly ten years before Motley, Ratt, Twisted Sister, etc.???? bad???? no way!

the worst songs off TITA are clearly the cover of Big Ten Inch Record and Uncle Salty (good lyrics, lame music, a weak Nº2 song overall, specially after the title-track...). I don't really like You See Me Crying but I wouldn't say it's a bad song

Rocks is the better album anyway...

I love the first four albums and the first two Ronnie James Dio albums. I like Sabbath Bloody Sabbath and Sabotage, otherwise, no, I'm not a fan of Black Sabbath.

Aerosmith trying to do Black Sabbath was a bad idea in the same way that Kiss trying to do a "fantasy" album (Music From The Elder) was a bad idea.

"No More No More" has a pretty cool groove to it and I quite like the lyrics. It's kind of similar to "No Surprize."
