The glitch on "A Summer's Place" is pure tacky. How could one not hear that on playbacks.

The bargain-basement packaging and the aforementioned defect took away my excitement for the CD. I haven't played it since the day I bought it.

Didn't Clive Davis recently say that he wants to work with Aretha again? I wouldn't be surprised if Aretha winds up at Arista again,especially after this "independent" release didn't do very well.

Honestly, I'm very suprised that it charted since it was only available at Walmart. That's very impressive.

Moving less than 11K copies of a Walmart exclusive in the first week is not impressive when compared to singers who've done 1000 times better under the same arrangements with the retailer.

The Eagles last album Long Road Out Of Eden was only at Wal-Mart and it sold pretty well.

Wow!! This is the first time I'm hearing of this CD... I shop at Wal-mart every week.

Last Aretha news I got was that she got sick and slimmed down, didn't know about any new CD in the works.

I guess I just haven't been paying enough attention.

I always seem to know when Gaga, Katy Perry, Britney and Rihanna come out with new releases whether I'm paying attention or not. I'll stop there....

That's an understatement. The Eagles sold over 3M copies of Long Road Out of Eden via Walmart, according to Billboard.

Exactly. Her biggest-selling album only sold 2 million (Amazing Grace). Most of her best-sellers were either gold or platinum.

James has been known to release 4 or 5 albums a year during the 1960's.

It's doesn't help that she's not putting forth a solid promotional effort. How are fans supposed to know the album is on the shelves at Wal-mart?

I think she was just ready to put it out and be done with it. It had been in production for almost seven years. Plus Aretha doesn't trust labels anymore and rather she just carry on her twilight years performing. That kinda seems to be the case.

I think one of the huge benefits of this Walmart thing could be the sales figures for the other Aretha product that should be - could be flying off of the Walmart shelves. Walmart has at least 21 Aretha Franklin "albums," that include Live at Filmore West and every possible greatest hits compiliation available. This could be some serious retirment money for Ms. Franklin.

She still gets huge royalty cuts for writing "Think", "Call Me", "Daydreaming", "Rocksteady" and the sort.

I heard earlier this week that Walmart pulled the CD out of the store because they had been getting so many complaints about the defect (skipping). And sure enough I went there today and could not find the CD.

Oh, that's gonna hurt whatever little momentum the album has. However, it's unconscionable that Aretha's camp didn't discover the defect before Walmart stocked the CDs.

I heard about the skipping issue (which is crazy!) but did not know abotu the long dead producer being credited. Can't look it up...the album isn't listed on Wikipedia or Allmusic....so if Aretha releases an album and nobody notices it....was it ever released?

I bought it, but had to take it back to Walmart twice. I knew when I heard that glitch in track 5, it was a manufacturing error that was gonna be on all of them. I told them just give me my money back- I'll wait until they fix it.

Yeah Marty Paich is credited for the "production" of "The Way We Were" I believe...
