difference between David and Dennis eras

I never understood why people call the Temptations with David Ruffin the "Classic 5" period. I've always been more fond of the Dennis Edwards, Eddie Kendricks, Paul Williams, Otis Williams, and Melvin Franklin lineup. Which era of the Temptations do you prefer? the David Ruffin era or the Dennis Edwards era? and why?

The David Ruffin era. Because of David Ruffin.

David era. Because that's when the Temptations truly were The Temptations.

The Dennis era was cool and all because they got funky but I have a soft spot for Ruff. music
