Natalie Cole (after 1979) - if she hasn't been mentioned yet.

clapping True! I thought when she did this cover to DJ Roger's classic, she almost made a big R&B resurgence...but it turned out not to be true!

Do you know the sad irony about this thread?

Beyonce is very good vocalist. All of her greatest hits thus far are the exact opposite of forgettable, yet I strongly believe most of it sucks to the point that they should be forgotten, but never will!

All I'm saying is that the artists everyone has mention in this thread thus far have tracks consider "forgettable" because they never had a major record label execs that have backed up AND made excuses for the Beyonces, the Madonnas, The Rihannas, The Kylies, & The Britneys of the world.

Sticking to the topic at hand, how about Martika?

During her career after Kids Inc. and before becoming just another Prince-girl, Martika was a very good vocalist with plenty of potential for something excellent. But yet, she is only known for Toy Solders instead of a far more superior version of Cross My Heart (Yes, it's better than the versions by Tracie Spencer & Eighth Wonder!).

Hate to admit it, but Aaliyah was another one. She truly didn't get her just due until she did the soundtrack work and released her third, and unfortunately last release, Aaliyah. Let's be honest!

I think One in a Million was her best album.

I personally loved the singles from that album, but I think Aaliyah was most remembered for her soundtrack work and singles. After her passing, people just tried to jump the bandwagon and call themselves Aaliyah fans, when they hadn't payed attention to her work before. That's part of the reason why I think Aaliyah was her most successful album and her death blew up more than the artist she had become. I can't really listen to her first albums in their entirety, but I do think she has magnificent singles and her last album was remarkable as well.

Macy Gray, an amazing voice, the first album was amazing, the Id was okay, the rest was unlistenable. But a lot if not all great artists fit in this category.

Prince has a lot of forgettable albums (ATWIAD, Chaos and Disorder, NPS, Rave, TRC etc)

MJ's Invincible was forgettable, Elton and Bowie have had several crap albums and then even Stevie has had his weaker moments.

So a very open and subjective question, an artist would not be an artist, if they hadn't released a forgettable album or two

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Oleta Adams was the first person who came to mind.

Being a big fan of Tears for Fears, I was excited when she put out a solo album.

She has an amazing voice...

She released a remake of "Get Here" by Brenda Russell, and did fairly well, but nothing else really "stuck".

"Love Hurts.
Your lies, they cut me.
Now your words don't mean a thing.
I don't give a damn if you ever loved me..."

Roberta Flack...After her work during 1969-1973, her work was spotty and forgettable in parts. Her last great albums were 1972's duet release Roberta Flack & Donny Hathaway and 1973's Killing Me Softly.

Most of Marvin's 1960s albums with these exceptions:

  • Stubborn Kinda Fellow
  • How Sweet It Is To Be Loved By You
  • Moods of Marvin Gaye
  • United (with Tammi Terrell)
  • I Heard It Through the Grapevine
  • M.P.G.
