The '80's Sans (Without) Michael, Madonna and Prince...

Give me your musical view of the 1980's. The only stipulation is...it cannot include Michael Jackson, Madonna, Prince...nor anything that has to do with them.

I'll start it off...

J. Geils Band - Centerfold

I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

That's what I'm talking about. The '80's does not get the credit that it deserves because of the "elite" that shall not be named any further.

But outside of them...in all honesty...the '80's kicked some serious ass musically!

I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

Now this song didn't make it until '89 and by that time, this song really summed up how I was feeling, perfectly.

I will say something about those 3 in this first paragraph. Though I knew of michael during the time, it was just in bits and pieces and having faint memories of seeing some those videos and a thriller toy passed down to me, but I didn't own them like I owned many from the first half of the 80's thanks to my parents, and mostly listened to 80's music for the first 12 years or so of my life before rediscovering michael by getting to know more of his catalogue, as well as more songs from the 80's artists I'm posting here ever since then and it's still happening. I won't discuss Janet in this thread either, cause I think she also belongs with them though she came way later and the popularity wasn't like the 3 (I didn't even know her until sometime during the janet era).

I loved songs from:

Wham-Freedom, Careless Whisper, Faith(before realizing it was the same guy haha)

Culture Club-Time(Clock of the Heart, The War Song, Karma Chameleon)

Cyndi Lauper (Time After Time, She Bop, Girls Just Want To Have Fun)

Sade, LOVED her! (Smooth Operator, Hang On To Your Love, Your Love Is King)

Tina Turner-(Better Be Good To Me, Private Dancer, What's Love Got To Do With It)

Phil Collins (Easy Lover, Seperate Lives, Against All Odds)

Tears For Fears-Everybody Wants To Rule The World, Mad World, Pale Shelter, Shout

Belinda Carsile-Circle In The Sand, Heaven Is a Place On Earth

INXS-Need You Tonight

Jody Watley-Real Love

Honeymoon Suite-Burning In Love, Feel It Again

Eddy Grant-I Don't Want To Dance, Baby Come Back, Boys In the Street

Lionel Richie-Hello, Penny Lover, All Night Long

La Bamba

Stevie Wonder-I Just Called To Say I Love You, Love Light In Flight

Thompson Twins-Hold Me Now

David Lee Roth-Just a Giglo/California Girls

Terence Trent D'arby-Wishing Well

And a lot of random songs like Mickey, Ghostbusters, Breakdance, Let's Hear It For the Boy, Give It To Me, Jump, One Love, Method of Modern Love, I Feel For You, Buffalo Stance, Cherish(not madonna, figure out who) Pump Up The Jam and so on.

Later on I discovered more songs like from these artists I may have heard but forgot, or didn't know at all cause I was born in 83 after all though I was exposed to lots of music from a young age, but it depended on what was taped or bought, cause if I watched tv, it was baby shows, and all the music stuff was already owned. I would also discover artists I didn't know. Some notable favourites I can't get enough of are

Human League-Don't You Want Me, Fascination, Human

Steve Winwood-Higher Love, and pretty much the whole Back In the High Life album

Alannah Myles-Black Velvet

Peter Gabriel-Games Without Frontiers, Shock The Monkey, Sledgehammer

Jody Watley-Her first album, Real Love

The Cover Girls-Because of You (remix and original), Show Me

Debbie Deb-When I Hear Music, Look Out Weekend (I was like, the only Janet fan who knew the original existed when Janet did the cover. Having that said, I will still take the original over Janet's...and you know I love her)

Roxette-She's Got The Look, Listen To Your Heart

Heart-Alone, Never, What About Love

Diana Ross-Missing You, Chain Reaction, Upside Down, My Old Piano, I'm Coming Out

Some 80's Metal...

Yes, I'm aware that Van Halen isn't "Metal", but I'm making an exception.
