You don't 'get over' addiction, you learn to manage it. Getting the help should be seen as a strong step, not something to put her down for. I myself make cracks (no pun intended) at her and laugh with vainandy, but I would say this about anyone who is addicted.
Everyone has to take responsibility for their choices.... Mr. Brown didn't led Ms. Houston anywhere, her choices her addiction. Period.
I've told this story before: about watching CNBC in '05 (of all stations) with the National Enquirer editor, Sister 2 Sister publisher Jamie Foster Brown, and another reporter who said they were on a Whitney Houston "death watch". Jamie Foster Brown said, Ms. Houston had told her she had been messin' around with drugs since high school and it progressed when she got into modeling.
All this nonsense that Mr. Brown "turned her out", is fiction. Houston was and is ghetto, 'ol girl doesn't have a sophisticated bone in her body and that's OK. With the help of Clive Davis & Company... "she cleaned up nicely".
I never did. Her interview on Oprah and all of those leaked concert recordings where she was cursing out her auidiences led me to believe nothing other than this chick has been in denial about her addiction.
People fail to realize before you can be cast in a movie the studio has to be able to insure you. ...So sometimes actors have to cleanse themselves or have a clean bill of health before the studios will give them insurance.
Cleanse? Yeah, from all the coke, crack and chemicals sweating out yo body. Sober people don't need to cleanse.
Truth.
Still I wish her the best. It's sad to see such a great beauty fade from succumbing to drugs.

Thank you! Thank you! She did tell Jamie Foster that she started doing drugs recreationally around the time she was modeling or during high school.

Prince Reaches Out To Troubled Houston
A representative for Prince has reached out to Whitney Houston as the troubled singer undergoes rehab treatment, dismissing rumours she has been banned from the star's shows and insisting he will "love her always".
The I Will Always Love You hitmaker recently enrolled in an out-patient rehabilitation program to seek treatment for substance abuse issues.
She was subsequently hit by rumours she had been banned from future Prince shows after allegedly behaving bizarrely at two concerts in Los Angeles this year (11), but a representative for the Purple Rain hitmaker is adamant the gossip is not true.
The spokesperson, in a statement released to Drfunkenberry.com, also confirmed Prince was delighted to invite Houston on stage during one of his recent gigs: "Whitney Houston is always welcome at Prince shows 4 (sic) all of eternity. Seeing her at 2 shows at The Forum in L.A. was a treat, especially when she sang with Chaka Khan and danced with Prince during his set. We love her always."
They mentioned the Dr. site. They finally given him some credit..

Hot Shots: Whitney Houston Heads Into Medical Center
Whitney Houston seemed to be in good spirits today when she was snapped heading into a Los Angeles medical center.
The images come a day after the icon’s rep revealed that she had checked herself into a rehabilitation facility for treatment of drug and alcohol dependancy.
On a positive note, Houston is set to star in the big budget sequel to ‘Waiting to Exhale’, ‘Getting to Happy’ – which begins filming later this year.

Vainandy would strongly disagree with THAT^ part of the paragraph! And quite frankly, even Mary J. Blige would disagree with that and she is from the ghetto!

Why would Mary J. OF ALL PEOPLE deny someone's roots? She and Andy ain't cut from the same cloth Tony.
Sure Whitney didn't get down like Mary. Plus Yonkers is ROUGH I heard.

Andy can blame Clive Davis for that... 'cleaning her up', that is.
All this nonsense about Mr. Brown turning Ms. Houston out, she married beneath her, she married a thug, she married someone who ultimately destroyed her and her career... is non-sense. To Houston's credit, she never pretended to be something she wasn't, I don't think she could if she tried. She was marketed as a refinded, sophisticated, statues former model, who had a wonderous voice, and who happened to come from music pedigree. When in fact Houston was.... a stand back on a right foot, with a hand on her hip sista', who would cuss yo' azz from A to Z, who would fight anywhere at anytime if you came "uncorrect", and also happened to be a straight up toot and crack pipe coke addict.
All water seeks it's own level . . . those two were never an opposites attract couple. Houston was just a "crazy", strung out, and wild as Brown.

Let's put it THIS way. Whitney is from Jersey. But her persona within the first 3 career albums said white girl from the California Valley!!!
But don't take my word on it. Watch THIS:
Within the 1st verse, Whitney copies the big hair style of Nancy Wilson of Heart. Within the 2nd verse, Whitney is copying the fashion statement of Olivia Newton John with the headband and all! Both of those fashion crimes came from the California Valley. Now you know that kind of fashion did NOT come from Jersey!

Well, if she indeed does have the capability to get down, I wish she would have been herself. Her voice would have been perfect for some of the type stuff that Donna Summer was doing during the disco era. True enough, disco was considered "dead" by the time she came out but her voice would have been perfect for the type of music that Shannon (Let The Music Play) was doing at the time. Instead of toning her voice down, let loose with a strong, loud, powerful, extremely "black" voice over some throbbing rhythmic dance music instead of some watered down soccer mom type songs and she could have got off with folks like Martha Wash. She definately had the capability of the voice part if it wasn't toned down because, after all, she's got folks like Aretha Franklin in her family. As for the type of music she chose behind the voice, I don't know. Maybe she was afraid she couldn't work some real jams on a stage because even the girl in Bruce Springsteen's "Dancing In The Dark" video doing her "Carlton" dance can put her to shame.
Still don't get why people think Bobby egged her on. Come on, Bobby doesn't have those type of skills. Not all people who grew up like she did can "get down" (like you put it Andy) anyway lol

Well, she's living proof of that.
It's like just because you came from a musically rich background or that you're black that you can automatically "get into the groove", try as she did, she...just...couldn't. It had nothing to do with her ethnic roots, she just can't dance.

Oh you ain't gotta tell me honey. I've seen her firsthand in action on the TV. She's a perfect candidate to sing the next time the Republicans have an inaugural ball (which I hope is no time soon).

Clive Davis... say it with me, CLIVE DAVIS.
You got it? Got it? Good.
Old news. I told some people that about Clive years agao. I also blame him for almost ruining the career of Phyllis Hyman.

Did you just say that Courtney Cox is a better dancer than Whitney Houston?!?
Old news. I told some people that about Clive years agao. I also blame him for almost ruining the career of Phyllis Hyman.
How did Clive Davis ruin Phyllis Hyman's career?
Long before he discovered Whitney, Clive once tried to get Phyllis to crossover to the mainstream pop audience. But Phyllis' vocals were too soulful for the pop charts and refused to change her image, therefore Clive fired her from the label.
The enitre story was confirmed in an episode of Unsung.
