The Metaphysics Of Music

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I watched parts 1-5 when this was first posted, but I only got around to watch the last part now. I made a cup of tea and needed a break from having a flamewar on the main forum.

I think I'd like to read something written by him as I like the ideas expressed here. Some of the ideas I can personally agree with, but perhaps he expresses himself with a bit too vague terms in these clips. Some more "scientifically" orientated individuals might find the way he expresses himself a bit flaky. Not sure if this is "metaphysics" for the most part either - it's just various theoretical questions applied to music, really. Perhaps all these considerations on what can be understood "consciously" and "unconsciously" can be considered metaphysics on the basis of the "a priori" / "a posteriori" distinction.

I enjoyed this nevertheless. Thanks for posting.
