Gloria (Who did it better?) Them ft. Van Morrison:
The Doors:
(I love this one because during their breakdown, Jim screams, "won't you SUCK MY COCK, baby?!" )
Patti Smith:
(Gotta love the "Jesus died for somebody's sins but not mine" line in the intro...) [Edited 5/4/11 18:58pm] [Edited 5/4/11 18:58pm]

Ok, these are different songs from the OP.
But really...Laura gets my vote out of the two here. Enchantment's was soulful...BUt she sang the hell outta that song! You go, Laura... [Edited 5/4/11 20:41pm] The salvation of man is through love and in love. - Dr. V. Frankl

i remember hearing the jimi hendrix version years ago... and still liking the them version better. i don't like the doors or patti smith, and i was never big on their renditions of this song.

Something bothers you about them?
I love all the versions I did hear. Them's version was always a stand-out anyways because of Van's voice. You could tell they were bad-ass @ Them.

not particularly... i just find them boring. i was never really into new york punk, save a couple groups. i never liked blondie, television, patti smith, etc. i liked the ramones though, and the first three talking heads albums.
with the doors, i think jim morrison is one of the worst writers i've ever read. i had a friend who was obsessed with morrison, and she leant me one of his books... i was amazed at how horrible his writing was. i think the doors needed each other. the only doors song i like is 'peace frog'. and i think patti smith is an interesting person, but i never liked the music she put out. i used to know lenny kaye, actually... he's a really nice dude. i didn't know him that well, but i used to see him all the time, and he kind of hung out at the same places i was at.

And I dig Jim's poetic side. He wasn't perfect at any means but it made some of their songs real interesting. I loved his talks in "The End" and "When The Music's Over" in particular. Love his "Lizard King" shit too.

OMG! YEEESSSSS I was hooked on U2 when I saw this! I thought he was my version of Jim with the way he was moving.
Them version is the best, but Jim as way more sexier!
Enchantment's version is an quiet storm classic....they got it in on the vocals
Laura...well all I can say is that I was jumping around like a fool singing it with just as must gusto as she did "A Man Can't Ride Your Back Unless It's Bent" MLK 4/3/68

i think he's one of the most boring writers i've ever read; i'm not into that 'i'm white and i wanna be a shaman' thing. we'll just have to respectfully agree to dis-agree, my brother.
i also don't like baudelaire or any of those writers patti smith was inspired by either... one of my favourite songwriters happens to be jacques brel though...

yeah... just not into it. i don't like the doors at all. i think love is okay... but the doors i don't like. it's just too much for me. i don't like 'acid rock' or 'glam rock' or any of those genres... 'hippie music', hee hee...

Patti's to me has so much balls & anger, it's so punk but funky.... i have to go with her's Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener
