I think ti is because P-Funk was looked as an 'old timer trying to look hip' around that time instead of the funkmaster that he is...it wasnt until the 2000's with the re-imergance and intrest of funk came back into light. The vocals and arrangement is all Clinton but the hip hop beat on the joint just sounded like he was trying to fit in instead of being the originator.
