I'm a litle biased when it comes to charts. Most of these songs were out before the Soundscan/Nielsen era. Records labels used every method, including paying retail and records stores to falsify thier reports to Billboard. IMO, all of the charts pre soundscan (1992) were all false and inaccurate to a certain degree, which prevented some of these songs to go to number one.

Also, during this hey day, you had hits coming out every minute, not like today.

According to Wikipedia, this song spent seven weeks at number 2, being kept out of the top spot by UB40's cover of Elvis Presley's "Can't Help Falling In Love" and Mariah Carey's "Dreamlover". Ironically, it finished as the number 2 song of 1993 on Billboard's yearly Hot 100, just behind Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You".
