Several singles by Creedence Clearwater Revival. They never had a #1 in the US.

Roxette had two singles that both peaked at #2 in the U.S. following #1 singles. "Dangerous" was preceded by "Listen To Your Heart" which went all the way to the top spot. Then history repeated itself when "Fading Like a Flower" peaked at #2 after the lead single "Joyride" took the number one slot.

I remember this being held off from No. 1 by Next's "Too Close."

This song spent ten consecutive weeks at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1981-1982, just behind Olivia Newton-John's "Physical", which spent ten consecutive weeks at number one.

One of the MOST famous #2's was LeAnn Rimes' "How Do I Live". While it didn't reach the top spot, it still was one of the top 5 biggest singles of 1997. I think it was the second biggest single of the year but my memory's blurry on that fact.
