Revisit: Kelis "Fleshtone" LP 2010

I found the album to be somewhat fun and very personal. It feels like it is meant to be a dark dance album however from the production standpoint. My favorite song is Emancipate. The grunting thumping chorus demands attention. Song For The Baby is nice..and Acapella was cool. However I cannot remember what the other songs sound like...and that is where my problem lies with this record. Maybe they just all blended in too much and sound the same after a while.

Your thoughts?

Better than 'Kelis Was Here', but not as good as 'Wanderland' in my opinion.

"4th of July," is what made me purchase the record. I love it. Fleshtone is a nice-quick dance record with absolutley no filler. "Home," & "Brave" are also hot, IMO. Yes it was commercial flop but I have a feeling that it's going to be one of those records that will slowly catch up and become an underground favorite. The whole thing "Scream(s)" of a cool night an an underground dance party.

Kelis was never a chart topping artist. She's developed a large following and also showed that she can do various styles of music and pull it off quite well. She has 5 studio albums under her belt and various cameo appearances on hot tracks as well. She's not going anywhere unless she wants to! She's extremely takented and beautiful to boot! Fleshtone was amazing and a great departure from the R&B/Hip Hop of Kelis Was Here.

When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Kelis' appearance of Top Chef Masters as a judge was awesome. Yes, she is beautiful and smart, and is a trained professional chef who knows her shit. One Master chef was explaining why his dish tasted a certain way and Kelis' responded with "I get that, but you still need to..." and she was totally on point dressing down this Master chef after he would not recognize that she a woman of substance and knew her food. I fell in love right then and there. And her dress was dreamy.

I cannot get enough of this album. There's not a single song I dislike. If I had to nit-pick, maybe I'd take a few "Emancipate yourself"'s out. lol

This album is cloud9 for me.

lol I agree. "Emancipate," does get a bit manic.

I saw Kelis open for Robyn on tour. While she isn't the best performer, especially up against Robyn who is like a female Prince, she gets a party going. She reminds me of a pretty Flava Flav when in concert, lol.

Fleshtone is a great album. If it doesn't pop for you on record, it will pop for you live. And there's little else to compare to a room full of hot sweaty gays bouncing with Kelis to "Emancipate yourself, emancipate yourself" all night.

I saw the same show. The Holiday/Milshake mash-up was fun.

Awesome!! And yes, that was amazing. The whole thing was just kinda like one big ass mashup, sort of, I guess. That's why she reminds me of a really good MC, lol. She wasn't performing much in those heels and catsuits.

As an occasional sweaty bouncing gay, I can see how the exessiveness of the chorus might be a good thing with a live crowd. nod

I also feel this album is lovely and strong lyrically.
