No, Billie Holiday proved that way before Sade was ever born.

Well, Curtwill1975 did use the words "living proof." I think the word "living" kind of disqualifies Billie from this particular conversation.

Good point. I stand chastise and corrected.

Sade is the living proof that you don't need a huge range to sound amazing and soulful

Of course she sounds amazing and soulful....just not the greatest voice of them all.

You know, if you put a gun to my head I don't think I could name two Sade songs but if JoeTyler says the new compilation is worth checking out I might have to get it. Even if he is wrong for not loving Cheap Trick. wink

falloff you still remember that I don't dig Cheap Trick? lol, good memory man

and check that Sade compilation out wink Even if you're not impressed by her smooth voice (perhaps too smooth for some people) , the songs are EXCELLENT neo-soul/quiet storm/funk stuff...

Everytime that I learn of someone that doesn't love Cheap Trick a tiny piece of me dies. sad

You don't have whop & yell and hold notes long in order to be the best singer.

She uses what she got real good and is in a class all by herself biggrin

Her first album, was the first vinyl I every bought in my life, from my own money.

I copied her in her style and clothes. I adored her.

So, for me it will allways be a yes.

(prince was my third album)

99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

No. Out of singers in 25 years?...definately No.

I love Sade and what she has is a very distinctive husky, soothing and velvety quality to her voice that very few possess..It is very pleasing..There is no mistaking a Sade track when you hear it....She is very sophiticated in her delivery and is definately in a class by herself.

Doesn't make her necessarily a better singer than others but just unique.

I mean a few others posess the same husky and velvety tones but still have a wider range and can outsing Sade any day of the week.....Like the late great Phyllis Hyman.

Sade has the type of voice that you either love or hate. As you can see from the thread, there's not much of a middle ground. While she's not the greatest SINGER, she has one of the most sultry VOICES I have heard. Her voice is gorgeous. I fell for her voice the first time I heard her.

Around the time they released Hang On To Your Love, I finally saw her. It was a wrap! I can honestly say that I had no idea what she looked like before I was "gaga" over her voice. She can sing Mary Had A Little Lamb and I'd pay to hear her sing it. That's just how it goes with Sade.

Sade is gorgeous in every way but the last 2 albums have been very disappointing. I don't think I've even listened to Soldier of Love all the way through. She needs to lose the boring electronica, it's not organic or soulful at all

Sade has an amazingly beautiful voice, but she's not the best. That title goes to k.d. Lang - hands down!

lol I know what you mean, but I could also read your words metaphorically to mean that in her unique style she is as good as anyone. She sings Sade songs perfectly.

But her style seems very limited and I get tired of it pretty quickly.

Purely vocally, no she is definitely not

I once watched a concert video of hers and she was good, the band was good, the songs were good, she looked sexy as all getout...but I HAD to turn it off before it ended because I thought I might go crazy from the monotony. lol

she is a great example of a female singer with a beautiful voice and very few octaves, i enjoy her voice as well as janet jackson.

When i hear singers like beyonce and rihanna, It makes me appreciate the simplistic singing style of sade/janet jackson

Now I adore singers with voices like whitney, mariah, and celine who can give you goosebumps.

edited wink

well, brandy can really sing... not on mariah or whitney's level. But she is light years ahead of rihanna and beyonce.

I agree. She just doesn't really showcase her vocal range on her albums. She does in her bathroom and then posts it on youtube though lol
