Something Rick James did that PRINCE should

He released Street Signs with remixes and a full live CD from that tour.

Imagine Dirty Mind or Controversy done that way?

I´d love it if they released Purple Rain as a
2 cd set with songs like Father´s song &
Electric Intercourse.
the same with Parade.
would B great 2 have the movie score, like the
piano version of An honest man & Alexa de paris.
would´nt that B something?
2cd Purple Rain & 2cd Parade delux edition

Street Songs...U meant, Yeah well Prince should let all live cds & dvds go from the past like I said on another post...until then I got my own personal gems 2 dig on. But he's got nothing 2 lose by trying what seems 2 B a sure win 4 himself and the fans/fams/supporters.

Universal Motown did it.they mainly only want to focus on His Bigger Sellers.of course Prince's First Decade more than anything else you would like a Happy Medium Between Prince&Warner Brothers but the way things are going Prince will have a Sticker on His Album&Cursing on stage before that appears to be happening again IMHO.

It's Universal's DELUXE EDITION series...they've re-issued many classic albums as double-disc editions full of alternate versions, live, etc...and new liner notes and original artwork. This is a great series...other labels should do the same..they're very worthwhile to buy...others include...

MARVYN GAYE-Whats Going On (A must have!)
VELVET UNDERGROUND & NICO-Self Titled (another one!)
THE WHO-The Who
PETER FRAMTON-Framton Comes Alive
BOB MARLEY-Xoudous (sp? sorry ...tired)
GIN BLOSSOMS-New Miserable Experience (Why???)
Every minute of last night is on my face today....

Strategically, the release of concerts from the commercial zenith of an artist's career means that the record company doesnt believe that artist can ever do anything to equal it. The record label said the Street Songs era was Rick James' peak and he has pretty much fallen from public eye since going to prison and not releasing anything for years. His last album, a great one, was ignored. To sell Rick James, you have to sell Superfreak.

Prince has stayed artistically alive through the years with regualr releases and muscial directions. While he popularity is not what record companies would consider that of a very marketable artist, the public still hears about what he is doing - they dont hear it on the radio or see the video on TV - but there is an excellent body or work fro Prince AFTER Purple Rain.

Rick's market has been saturated with a string of greatest hits releases. Prince keeps it fresh and kees forging ahead. Record companies dont want to rlease a Purple Rain gig ad have it sink - because it probably would - even though it is the classic Prince that everyone loved in 1984.

Rick stayed Fresh through 1985's "Glow".in some circls Rick's "Throwin Down" is considered better than 'Street Songs" it's just where you rest on the subject&artist.in alot of Circles you have to Sell Prince with "Purple Rain".it's all on the Subject&where people sit with a Artist?but you do have to Sell Product to have a Longer Shelve Life.

Wouldn't that be cool? Re-master the entire album, and add a bonus disc containing all the outtakes from this period.

When I clicked on this thread I was looking for an answer like;

1) Tie a woman up and burn her with a crack pipe

2) Become a criminal, toss salad in prison and find god

3) The "No More Rapes" Tour

Or all of the above.

lol I agree with Handclaps. Don't care about remixes. Alternate versions, sure, but not remixes. Live Cd's from past tours, now that's really interesting. Not likely, but interesting.
