But at least they made funk when they were ripping off other people's funk. But the shit they've been making in the last decade ain't funk so they need to sit their ass down and just tour only.
And usually when they do tour, they don't perform garbage like this they usually perform
all the 70's and 80's hits. I wonder if they still plan to release the Live and More cd they
were supposed to release this year with songs featuring George Clinton, Chuck Brown,
and Doug E. Fresh.
One man's trash is another man's treasure.
I don't know why you think the Bar-Kays wouldn't play one of their most popular songs at shows. I have seen footage of them playing Freakshow at numerous venues and I'm sure you have too.
I know that you prefer a different sound from them, but it's obvious that the group is okay with putting out those kind of songs. Larry mentioned that his favorite song of theirs is "contagious" from 1987, so I don't get why you are trying to make it seem like they aren't into that stuff.
Of course the older music is better suited for a live performance and I'm sure they realize that the die hard fans want that instead. Well, maybe not so much after hearing this lol
You're so glam, every time I see you I wanna slam!

No man you got it twisted. The trash i'm talking about is the cover of Return of the Mack. I love Freakshow and despite everyone's complaint that it rips off No Parking On The Dance Floor, Freakshow still moved the crowd and still does. I actually dig all the Barkays Mercury and most
of their Stax material. We may have read the same article but i remember Larry mentioning that
Certified True was his favorite song which is on Contagious. I even like the Barkays 1994 album 48 hrs which imo was their last great album. Some songs on The Real Thing were okay but they were all over the place on that album even a few blues songs but the stuff they are attempting
now is crazy weak. Where is their audience for Return of the Mack? I do like the video but this songis so beneath a veteran trailblazer act for funk. I don't even mind the band modernizing a bit but at least stay true to what you are and do what made you great in the first place. You expect so much more from legends like Larry and James.
Don't laugh at my funk
This funk is a serious joint

Even though the "Contagious" album wasn't as strong as their earlier funk, it was still funk. But in the 2000s, The Barkays have been putting out shit hop and neo stool and several of them said in a recent interview on "Unsung" that it was shit hop that killed their career. So why join the enemy? That's what I will never understand about the old groups releasing new stuff and selling out to the new sound. They have joined and kissed the ass of the very enemy that killed their careers.
"Freakshow on the Dance Floor" = Rewrite of Midnight Star's "No Parking on the Dancefloor"
At least THIS^ is a synth-funk classic! I rather see Bar-Kays rip-off their fellow funk peers than doing weak cover versions of 1990's songs any day of the week.
Never would have guessed they did a video for this mediocre tune.
Video is much better than the song.
are you freaking kidding me?? they CAN'T be serious. what HAPPENED to them? why autotune? he doesn't even sound good using a program that is supposed to fix vocals... i wasn't a fan of the mark morrison version, but now i gotta go listen to it to exorcise my ears from this mess.
These bands aren't gonna gain too many 'new' fans anyway.Today's kids aren't checkin' for the next EW&F album So,these bands may as well stick to the music that their REAL fans love.
You make a very good point, although I probably don't dislike this song as much as most others. It's just that it doesn't sound anything like The Bar-Kays. I hate that artists feel any pressure at all from the industry to have any particular sound. It's kind of like: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". And for me, 70's Funk was never broke! I never got my fill of it, never got sick of it. It's like Funk slowly went away, and just left me hanging, wanting more.
Music today seems too much like a competition, whereas back in the day; artists made music from their heart. I wish the music industry of TODAY would get a clue.
