WTF? BarKays video for Return Of The Mack

Never would have guessed they did a video for this mediocre tune.

Video is much better than the song.

Honestly,I would rather for these artists and bands to simply release old, unreleased songs from the vaults (if they have any).Put together a 'new' album of outtakes recorded from 1978-1983,for exampple. That would be better than the modern-sounding crap that they're doing now!

That's why it's up to us to not buy what they are releasing. They want to sellout and hopefully get some of that "new" money from today's listeners but they depend on the longtime fans as a safety net when their sellout attempts fail. Everybody wants to be the new Ronald Isley or Charlie Wilson these days, who are complete disgraces of who they used to be.

Without our money, they won't have any money when their sellout attempts fail. Give them an ultimatum to either bring on the funk, the whole funk, and nothing but the funk, or sit the fuck down because our money isn't going to traitors. And yes, that should go for Prince also when he makes shit like "Ol Fool Crappery" and "Gaydown".

Exactly. There has to be inspiration for an artist to make great stuff and there is no inspiration on the radio these days. If they go into the studio these days, their mind has been polluted with what they've heard recently unless they have just completely tuned the modern music world out which is impossible to do (believe me, I've tried) since shit hop and neo stool is not only all over the radio, but also all over the TV, being talked about in the news, coming from passing cars, and even has threads right here on the org. And if someone has children, they really can't escape it.

The best thing to do is just release old unreleased stuff from the vault that was recorded before shit hop and neo stool even existed, that way there's no trace of it whatsoever. Then hope the old fans buy it or even the new fans who like the old music. If it's a success (which it probably won't be), maybe it will inspire someone else to make something good and if it's not a success, at least you haven't sold out and still have your pride. But the sellout stuff is not going to be a success so at least try to please the fans of your old music.

Ugh... Well at least they're doing an actual cover version, instead of blatant rip-offs of other artists' songs:

"Dance, Party, Etc" = Rewrite of Prince's "DMSR"

"Freakshow on the Dance Floor" = Rewrite of Midnight Star's "No Parking on the Dancefloor"

Well they are porbably not educated with the new underground funk that is going on either...so they fall into that trap. Unfortunatley.

Then they go and please the people who dont care about them.

I hope Dam Funk does justice with Steve Arrington...I wasnt too happy about I Be Trippin..waaay too much hip hop influence, where Steve had nothing to do with that genre...but I have faith that Dam will funk it up.

Is any other old school artists making albums these days?

Bootsy got a new album coming out, and while Play With Bootsy was fun for some of the tracks..again there was waay too much Hip Hop influence on the tracks...luckily he had "Dance To The Music" and "Groove Eternal" on there so that I can overlook it..but it wasnt enough. WE WANT THE FUNK!

spit Feels more like a parody video for the actual "Return of the Mack" song and video by Mark Morrison. The song isn't even original rolleyes C'mon now...that's like Smokey Robinson having a song called "In The Name of Love" but all the original lyrics are from R. Kelly's "Step in the Name of Love". disbelief Thank God Cameo doesn't do this bullshit.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

And usually when they do tour, they don't perform garbage like this they usually perform

all the 70's and 80's hits. I wonder if they still plan to release the Live and More cd they

were supposed to release this year with songs featuring George Clinton, Chuck Brown,

and Doug E. Fresh.

Plus they (technically) semi-butchered a Slave song in '95 ("Slyde").....so they are suspect jus a lil.

Love both bands tho.

Bands like Cameo,The Bar Kays,EW&F and others should just say "screw it" and make music like they did in their heyday.Bring back the horns, the basslines and the FUNK! Act like we're still in the 70s.These bands aren't gonna gain too many 'new' fans anyway.Today's kids aren't checkin' for the next EW&F album lol So,these bands may as well stick to the music that their REAL fans love.No need to add rappers and shit.Give me an album that sounds like 1977!!

This new Bar Kays song is,quite possibly, the worst piece of trash that they ever released barf

It's bad enough that we have to hear this sorta crap from today's lame artists. It's sad when a legendary funk band (who actually know how to make good music) lower their standards and release garbage like this.

As I stated in the original thread for this song: I don't mind the idea of Larry autotuning, but this cover just sucks.

EDIT: Larry is still fly as ever though. His swag is crazy in the video.
