THIS was my favourite wrecka stow IN ALL OF THE WORLD:

this is where i got the bulk of my musical education, besides my mother. this was my other home. robert cohen was the inimitable proprietor, who chain smoked and loved his coffee... he was the crotchety old man with a ton of knowledge. i sat there every week for hour upon hour and hung out with pat longo, who was my second music teacher... i was a wet behind the ear teenager, and he dropped all these treats on me. he put the needle on the cuts he knew would get me to get that record. we spent hours talking about everything from blue note to the first pink floyd album to the rizillos to sammy davis jr. on motown to the out-of-print limited edition screenpressed sun ra to ocho and black jazz records...

everyone from coxone dodd to neil sugarman to dj premier would come in and hang out too... it wasn't just a record shop, it was a community resource. i will always miss those days at the small hole on W. 6th street. i used to frequest all sorts of stows, but there was something about this one, where they accepted me as family. life has never been the same since.
