Released on 28/03/11. Born February 1943 in Birmingham, Alabama, Dennis Edwards began his singing career at a very early age when he began singing in his father’s church choir at the tender age of 2. After moving to Detroit several years later, Edwards continued his passion for singing in a number of groups and later formed his own Soul/Jazz outfit called Dennis Edwards and the Fireballs and in 1967 joined The Contours before leaving to replace David Ruffin as The Temptations lead singer the following year.

After a very successful period with The Temptations, winning two Grammy Awards for the songs Cloud Nine and Papa Was A Rolling Stone, it was time for Edwards to try a second attempt at his solo career on Motown, this time with great success! 1984 saw the release of DON T LOOK ANY FURTHER. Produced by Dennis Lambert, and featuring support vocals from the likes of Paulette Williams who was the first lead singer of Rufus before Chaka Khan, the album soared into the top 50 in the Pop charts and #2 spot in the R&B charts. The title track, a duet with Siedah Garrett, also known for her duet with Michael Jackson on I Just Cant Stop Loving.

You and co-writer of Man In The Mirror, features a timeless bass line and Dennis Edwards smooth vocals lock it down into a serious groove making it easy to see why it became a UK hit twice in the eighties and a timeless dance classic. here's another upcoming release that I'm excited about....

BBR CD release of The O'Jays - BACK STABBERS (Expanded)

CDBBR 0051

• THE O’JAYS were formed by five high school friends in 1958 who after seeing Frankie Lymon and The Teenagers perform, were inspired to start a vocal group. They spent time on various labels and released some fairly successful singles on Imperial Records working with H.B. Barnum and also Gamble & Huff, who were working as a production team for Neptune Records.

• Neptune folded in 1971 leaving THE O’JAYS, now a trio, in... somewhat of a limbo. Having already captured the attention of Gamble & Huff, THE O’JAYS became one of the first signings at the newly formed, now legendary, Philadelphia International Records.

• BACKSTABBERS, released in 1972, was the album that made THE O’JAYS a household name and begun a period of incredible success with Philadelphia International, giving them close to 30 singles in the charts including a string of #1 R&B hits helping them to become one the label’s biggest group and also serving as a landmark of the classic Philly Soul sound.

• The title track was chosen for the first single and reached #5 on the US Pop chart while giving THE O’JAYS a #1 R&B hit. LOVE TRAIN followed suit and duly hit the top spot on the R&B charts as well as clinching the #1 position on the US Pop Chart.

• BBR is so very proud to present the first ever expanded edition of this iconic Philly Soul album. BACK STABBERS has been lovingly re-mastered and carefully repackaged in full-expanded form. Complete with extensive liner notes featuring interviews along with added bonus content.

• Released in deluxe Super Jewel cases this BBR Remaster is a must have for all Funk, R&B and Philly Soul fans out there!

Jon Lucien

I Am Now [Expanded Edition]
CDBBR0029

Jon Lucien : I Am Now [Expanded Edition]
Born on the British Virgin island of Tortola in 1942, two-time Grammy Nominee Jon Lucien, grew up playing in his fathers Latin band. In 1961 he relocated to New York to make a name for himself.

After years of struggling playing the wedding circuit, a chance encounter in 1969 with an RCA executive gave Jon Lucien the opportunity to audition, the result being 3 albums released on RCA Records. In 1970 Jon Lucien released his debut offering, I AM NOW, now lovingly repackaged and digitally re-mastered on BBR.

In the past, his smooth baritone voice drew comparisons to greats like Nat King Cole and Lou Rawls, but during almost 30 years of recording and performing, Jon Lucien cultivated a unique and rich romantic sound all of his own which was difficult to classify but would later became know as Smooth Jazz or more interestingly, Quiet Storm which helps to give an idea of the underlying intensity in Jon Lucien’s work.

With the rise of Acid Jazz in Britain embracing smooth jazz-soul artists like Jon Lucien, his work was sampled and remixed by a whole new generation of performers and producers which led to his earliest albums becoming cult classics and highly sought after by collectors and dealers, sometimes changing hands for obscene amounts of money. BBR is very proud to present this newly re-mastered edition of I AM Now, accompanied by extensive liner notes featuring an interview with Delesa Lucien, widow of the late Jon Lucien, and all original artwork and additional photography provided especially for this project courtesy of Delesa Lucien.

In 1973 Jon Lucien released his second album, RASHIDA, now lovingly repackaged and digitally re-mastered on BBR.

With the rise of Acid Jazz in Britain embracing smooth jazz-soul artists like Jon Lucien, his work was sampled and remixed by a whole new generation of performers and producers. Jon Lucien s earlier works became cult classics as a result of the resurgence, but at the time of its release, RASHIDA was also recognized for its genius picking up two Grammy nominations for the title track and equally popular LADY LOVE. BBR is very proud to present this newly re-mastered edition of RASHIDA, accompanied by extensive liner notes featuring an interview with Delesa Lucien, widow of the late Jon Lucien, and all original artwork plus additional photography provided especially for this project courtesy of Delesa Lucien.

That's got to be their most successful album and yet,it's not on CD.Makes no sense.Hopefully, the BBR guys are working on it.I would love to get that one on CD,as well as the two albums that came after it ('Love Storm' (1977) and 'Future Bound' (1978).As you can see,I'm a huge fan of their disco phase, lol.

Anytime cool Yeah, that asking price above $ 100 is too much, but if i was considering purchasing i would go for one of the copies around $ 60.

Still quite a price, but then again there might not appear so soon a (cheap) copy on an ebay-auction, with the chance of being outbid as well lol.

And if i'm not really sure if a specific album might be reissued one day, then i'll take that chance for a higher price. But there's a good possibility

that it might come out again for cheaper nevertheless, hence if remastered then that would be a winner no doubt.
