Love Wierd Al and glad to hear Gaga went gaga over the song! If she truly did say no obviously they decided to reverse course and not suffer the back lash from fans and critics. Interested to hear the final cut for this and the video should be hilarious! The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

I guess when a parody you tube video hits almost 800,000 in a day and is all over the blogosphere management has to step up and take the fall to protect a holier than thou one of a kind artist from being seen as the emperor's new clothes. "It"? You mean that the idea for the video didn't even get past her people? Gaga didn't -say- anything until she said yes. It's unfair to constantly lay a bunch of mousetraps around her and ask her to dance, ya know.
Stop waiting for the girl to fail, man. No matter how much misinformation you guys spread, it doesn't make it true.

I don't believe this 'nobody told me' stuff. Politicians do it all the time. It's the lamest and least believable excuse in the book. If your manager was not only making decisons behind your back but IMPERSONATING you in your affairs you would fire them, point blank.

Who was impersonating who? You act like Weird Al is Sandra Day O'connor. He makes some random claim about Gaga saying this or that and you eat it up like stew?
How do you know he was being honest? How do you know he wasn't exaggerating the situation? How do you know he didn't put the request in, the managers said "Actually, no thanks. She's not interested." and move on? That isn't grounds for firing, its grounds for clarification. Which she did.

^Because Al has a long history of getting approval from the artist he wants to parody. Al doens't need to go around and make things up, cause he can release a parody with or without artist approval. Don't be trying to shift the blame to Al who has been in the business close to 40 years.
His shit dont stink. The Most Important Thing In Life Is Sincerity....Once You Can Fake That, You Can Fake Anything.

I've concluded that she can do no right in some people's eyes. She's laughing all the way to the bank, though, because there's not a bigger pop starlet in the world today, and that's part and partial to her obstinate haters. "Get up off that grey line"
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
If that was the case, then why did he put the disclaimer on the video saying that he couldn't release it because of Gaga (which we now know is not true)? "Get up off that grey line"

^Cause if youve read the blog it seems that gaga, who Al felt at the time he was dealing with, was making him jump through hoops to get her permission. Most artist just say yes or no, not want to hear the lyrics, then the music then the final mastered product. After doing all this and then getting a no Im sure Al was rather upset to have wasted time and coin to be slapped in the face.
This the first time that IM aware of that Al went and released a non appoved parody in his long musical career.

But we've clarified (or rather, it was clarified) that he didn't NEED her permission. And his statement after the official Yes was that, "I can finally release my album!" So hold up, he had the album printed and ready to go and THEN asked her permission?
This reeks of a publicity stunt and Al is no idiot. He knew well in advance that he would be able to piggyback her fame because he piggybacked it with Coolio and he piggybacked it with MJ too. MJ seemed obliged to let Al do what he wanted, but Coolio (as we all recall) was not happy whatsoever.
From the "Amish Paradise" wiki: Although Yankovic traditionally secures permission from the artists he parodies (even though this may not be legally required, as parodies are covered under fair use guidelines), and was told by his record label that Coolio had given permission, Coolio later claimed that he had not given such permission. This created a minor controversy, as speculation surfaced that Coolio had actually given permission but later claimed he had not in the fear that allowing the parody would not be seen as "cool", or that Yankovic's record label had lied to Yankovic in the hopes that the song would become popular. Yankovic later stated on VH1'sBehind the Music that he had written a sincere letter of apology to Coolio which was never returned, and that Coolio never complained when he received his royalty check from proceeds of the song. A series of photos taken at the XM Satellite Radio booth at the 2006 Consumer Electronics Show suggests that Yankovic and Coolio may have made amends.[1] According to Al, he was as surprised as anyone when Coolio came over to chat.
So, this addresses a few things. 1) Regardless of who says what, if it doesn't come from the horse's mouth then it's not true. 2) Celebrities of that magnitude have a protective barrier around them that is as thick as they want it to be and if their "people" decline an offer because it, traditionally, goes against the artist's sensibilities, that's on their head - not the artist's. 3) Gaga, when -actually confronted in the media- said yes to the parody. And that is no small feat given the song is basically a complete mockery of her. And by that, I mean the lyrics take direct shots at Lady Gaga. "I'm Fat" and "Eat It" have no bearing on Michael Jackson. "Amish Paradise" made fun of Amish people, not Coolio. "Perform This Way" refers to Lady Gaga as crazy and suggests she is conniving enough to bilk her fans out of money.

Yeah. Like I said earlier this could've been easily handled if her manager or her team wasn't so hesitant on telling him no after he allegedly went through all of that. Some folks think Weird Al set it up to get attention but I never recalled a time when he did this to fake sympathy. If she really didn't listen to it and then her manager just up and diss Weird Al on the spot, then Gaga needs to get her team STRAIGHTEN out.
But we can't just let it rest that Weird Al and Gaga have made peace and shake hands.

You're killing me with this stuff. It's like you purposely are trying to stoke the flames or something. Do you not remember Coolio? I just posted the info for you. Weird Al absolutely begged for sympathy because big mean Coolio didn't like that parody.

LOL, Timmy...I was just thinking about that this morning. To me, Gaga is one of those artists who makes pretty good music, but as soon as she opens her mouth to speak... Honey, stop talking and just create the music.
