It's pathetic that all these pop stars feature on each others records. It's marketing desperation to boost sales and it seems to be everywhere in US pop/rnb music.
It was like when Eminem teamed up with Rihanna. Seems so fake. These duets or "featuring" songs just reek of desperate marketing.
Predicting future collabs
Lady Gaga and Eminem
Beyonce and Rihanna (has this happened yet?)
Beyonce and Britney
Pink and Eminem
Katy Perry and Lil Wayne
Justin Beiber and Rihanna.....
Pink and Eminem already happened.
Yeah, coupling Eminem with Rihanna took the cake. |

LOL@Lady Gaga and Eminem. Someone alert me when that happens, I will suspend my usual anti-Gaga mentality long enough to listen to it.
Anyway...if you ask me, the problem is iTunes. Billboard puts too much importance on iTunes sales, which makes it easy for a shallow, rabid fanbase to hold the charts hostage. IMO, they need to go back to putting the importance on airplay. Hits are on the radio. Britney was always more likely to be snubbed at radio than embraced, then iTunes comes along, and after spending most of her career barely nicking the top 40, she's suddenly having number one singles left and right. That's so phony to me.

Always seemed to me that sales are really the base for a chart. I mean, airplay? Don't record companies buy airplay? It doesn't mean a thing.
When people actually go and buy stuff, that's what a chart should be about, not what a dj decides to play.
There are no Dj's anymore..they are handed lists and the computer tells them what they are to play.
What are the chart for most bought singles recently anyway? Im talking purchases not radio airplay. Itunes list are usually a good one to look at. Straight Jacket Funk Affair

I don't listen to the radio but now that you mention it, yes, I have heard the "Umbrella," song but I didn't know it was Rhianna. All those girls sound the same to me.

That is so stupid I don't understand some of these billboard rules. "S&M" got to #2 with just Rihanna on it. Only the digital sales of the remix with Shitney combined with the airplay and digital sales of the original song made "S&M" go to #1. So how is this a #1 for Shitney? If the original version featured both Rihanna and Shitney on it then I could understand. Releasing a remix after the song comes out should not give the remix featured singer a co-#1, unless the remix itself gets all the airplay and digital sales
Not once have I heard the remix on the radio...So basically Shitney got a cheap #1 that deserves an asterisk [Edited 4/21/11 13:19pm] |

She gets credit for the simple fact that Rihanna wouldn't be #1 without her.
It's as simple as that.
The record label most likely wanted credit, asked Billboard for it, and they obliged. Why would Britney even hop on the track if she wasn't getting something out of it? Just to hand Rihanna an easy #1? That's stupid.
Billboard did the correct thing. |

I dont know why people care about charts so much...that does not mean the credability of a song is "good" or "not good"...if Billie Jean only hit #89 on the pop charts in the 80s...would it have been a bad tune?
Michael Jackson reportedly cried when 'Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough' bowed at something like 88 and dropped it's second week on the chart.
It eventually climbed to #1. I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think. |

I mean, the pop charts have always been littered with shit but once in a while a jem would shine through but all this crap is really unbelievable. It's all so banal.
Co-sign.
I did like the song w/ Eminem but can't tell you the name of it as I type.
And there was a song I liked on her debut enough to get the album. I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think. |
