Love this thread, Been a fan of DJ quik ever since i was 13 when i first heard Safe + Sound, copped all his albums since, he's up there with Dre as one of the west coasts greatest producers and one of the innovators of G-funk, i like how his lyrics evolved from strictly gangsta to humerous and whitty, his collab album with Kurupt was one of my favs of 2010, still yet to hear this one though, he's gonna release the video for the single the same day the album drops so thats gonna be exciting, also there's a mixtape like a pre-lude for the album that dropped 2 weeks ago!!!

Incredible album, a masterpiece. Best album of 2011 so far for me.

I love the album. I gotta say track number 2 is my favorite, right now! "Do Today" is a cool, feel good song.

I like Quik but if he's a genius, then what is Stevie?

I didn't say that. Quote where I said that. I said that QUIK is not. Its not a knock against someone not to declare them a musical genius. That term is used much too loosely these days. There are not very many musical geniuses. It has become more of a marketing term and hype word.

I think Quik is talented. I don't believe he is a genius. If he is, then someone like Stevie Wonder needs a new word to describe his work.

If everyone's a musical genius, then its nothing special to be one.

You called him a beatmaker, which is basically a rap term. But he actually composes and arranges music. He's actually a music, one of the few in the rap field a real one at that. Dude is bad on the keys, Roger Troutman tought him the talk box. Plays guitar, bass and drums.

And his rapping is underrated too.

Nah, I'm pretty aware of what he does. I just think "genius" is an overstatement. I didn't mean for it to come off as a slight. There is a lot of ground between musical genius and drum machine programmer. I've heard a lot of Quik's work and while I like him, I don't think he's up to the genius level of music. I'm not saying he sucks by any means at all.
