The Roots, The Roots

The Roots are on fire!!!

Is it just me or is "Phrenology" by The Roots one of the best hip, hop albums in a really long time?

I like to think of myself as someone who was "hip/hop when hip hop wasn't cool" - meaning I was into hip/hop long, long time ago when it was brand new and on the cutting edge. And over the past few years or decade or so, hip/hop as a genre, in my opinion, has deteriorated mostly into a lot of commercial garbage.

But, "Phrenology" is really a breath of fresh air. And coming from The Roots, I'm not surprised.

It's a good album alright... Just got phrenology and things fall apart, and on first impressions I think I prefer things fall apart-loving Water on phrenology though!

Phrenology is one hell of a good hip hop album. Totally agree with that. It got to #4 on my Top Five Albums of 2002... smile (Check out my signature if you wanna know more! lol)

One of the things I really like about Phrenology is that there's a lot of variety and it all meshes together really well. There's old school, new school, thought provoking poetry, R&B, hard core hip/hop, soft core hip/hop. And get this... they even use REAL instruments... with original compositions... can you believe that?

So yeah, I'm really diggin' this one.

"Illadelph Halflife" is the one I think it's their best one to date.

Since you mentioned how they are live what do you think of the live album they put out? I think it really captured how good they are live.

I felt it was really Good.as a mater of Fact I saw some Video Tapes on there Performances in late 98 before that Live Set dropped in 99&I was feeling there Vibe on Stage.truth be told aside from "Illadelph Halflife" I don't think none of there Future Albums will ever capture them on Stage&I can see why they are tryng hard to Push a More Accesible Album in the Mainstream.

They also have a much deeper luv respect & understanding of music as a whole then most hip-hop/rap acts. And the truth is they are a very talented bunch. Being open mined when comes 2 what they take in as artist reflects what they put out as artist. Its heard & felt.
