Agree, I think that the non-hardcore hiphop fans will like 808's and his later stuff more where he depended on catchy dope hooks and beats more than lyrical substance and real life issues like he talked about on TCDO, 808's does have it moments but that whole "robo-cop/amber rose/Miami vice hair do" didnt do it for me but yet as i said before its has some infectious melodies like Heartless, Love Lockdown and WTHB, he also pushed boundraies on that album when he used a mix of genres and new elemnts in his music like synthpop, electronica, R&B, and electropop | |

If you ask me something about Nicki Minaj, you won't get an answer, but that girl killed "Monster". I'm sorry! I'm not the biggest hip-hop head, but I gotta give her props for her verses on that cut. Probably the only thing I'll ever give her props for because....well you know! Check me out and add me on:

I Agree! yet another reason why on MBDTF the rappers that appear even the one's i don't like including Minaj did good with what they had.
Even Rick Ross was good at Monster & Devil In A New Dress Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

808s & Heartbreak gets high marks for me because it was a complete 180 degree from anything Kanye has ever been associated with. Also as expected, it almost decimated his hip-hop audience. Say whatever you want about him, but this album proved that West had balls to go left field. Not many million-selling artists-especially a hip-hop artist, would even think of making an album like this. I'm not saying this album was groundbreaking or anything because it isn't, but this album has to go down as his most important statement as an artist. Let me explain this! The fact that 808s was even released is a testament to Kanye's pulling power-especially in these tough times for the music industry and the economy in general. Yes, the surface of this album is pop music, but it was a bold move. Mixing synthpop, electronica, R&B with the whole auto-tune scared me too at first. When I first heard "Love Lockdown," I was like "what the hell is this?" But eventually, I got into it because that bass and those electronic drum beats that emulate the African drums was just unique to me. Here's another important fact: this is the first and only album of his where he wasn't completely jocking and sampling other people's stuff. Sure, there were some instances where he sampled Nina Simone's "Sinnerman" and Tears for Fears, but I gotta respect the musicianship and passion of this album. Many put this album down because of Kanye falling into the auto-tune trap, but it was a big part of the album to me. He wasn't using this as a gimmick, he was using it to create an effect that was all his to me. Dude can't sing for shit, but I liked the effect. Late Registration might be his magnum opus, but 808s is his real important statement for me.
I know I'm gonna get some heat for that, but it is what it is! Check me out and add me on:

The last couple of minutes of this is why I consider 808s his boldest record:
Too funky...
Lyrically, this song is deep as hell. Actually 75% of 808s was deep lyrically, in my opinion. Sure, I missed the sociopolitical and wisdom-sparked dynamic of Kanye's earlier stuff (The College Dropout and Late Registration), but I was really into this album. Check me out and add me on:
