I'm starting a thread comparing the difference between music back then and now, you all can join me if u like, but I was just thinking. The other day I was listening 2 my fav Morris Day album The Time and I noticed how there where only 6 tracks on the lp, but just about each song lasted about eight minutes. Nowadayz a CD with only 6 tracks would b considered a single and every song would only last about 3 minutes. Even when I listen 2 George Clinton and the parliment I realize how almost all the tracks where at least nine minutes long and I have this version of Knee Deep, that's exactly 10 minutes long. I have the original copy of the sugar hill gang "rapper's delight" and the whole song is proxmitly 14 minutes long and not 2 mention, it's just not the same line or beat repeating itself, the rap through the whole thing with different lyrics and the beat changes every now and then. U don't see alot of 10 minutes songs these dayz, damn if a song is 5 minutes long people will complain about how long the song is...

Knee Deep is 15 minutes long on my album version.

I used 2 like that, but ina sendse it kind of left me wantin MORE. I liked the 4 songs one 1 side type of thing.

No one would really buy a CD for $15 if it had only 6 songs that were about 6 minutes each. Its just the tooth!

Now remember when people used 2 say 2 us in the 80's that "music aint what it used 2 b", now look at us!...then watch our children say it when they get in their 20's, and on n on.

One of the big differences is, like you've mentioned, there were fewer tracks back then. I kind of miss that. It sucks buying a CD with with one or two killer cuts and everything else is just filler that wouldn't even make decent B-sides. I mean, those CDs with like, 20+ tracks are filled with interludes and nonsense like that. On the flip side, you get those hidden bonus cuts. Guess that's a plus.

I think the Mystery ended when the Album format got replaced with CD's&also we didn't have as much Technilogy ruling so much.back then you didn't have to have as much Pre-Hype on Albums things just took a Life of there own IMHO.also back then Companys allowed more Room for Growth&allowed Artists more Lead way nowadays everybody knows what everyone is doing&it seems also that everyone is working with one another as well.no room for Idenity.as for Songs time:that's all Radio Politics there IMHO.but every once in a while a song or two will break tradition but Companys aren't letting much go through nowadays.
