Abba's Dancing Queen + name your favourite disco tracks

99,99% of the euro-disco were pure crap but this one is a masterpiece (thanks to Muriel's Wedding)
It's Icenine favourite dance track ever too exclaim but Soulpower told us that the recording sessions of this song were financed by the CIA and that when you listen to it backward you can hear pro-USA subliminal messages sad
anyways I'm going to dance, looking for my queen...
Your favourite disco tracks: don't hesitate to mention musical giants like Village People or Boney M , even if to be young, tasteless and junkie are not an excuse for everything

Dancing Queen
You can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life
See that girl, watch that scene, dig in the Dancing Queen

Friday night and the lights are low
Looking out for the place to go
Where they play the right music, getting in the swing
You come in to look for a king
Anybody could be that guy
Night is young and the music's high
With a bit of rock music, everything is fine
You're in the mood for a dance
And when you get the chance...

You are the Dancing Queen, young and sweet, only seventeen
Dancing Queen, feel the beat from the tambourine
You can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life
See that girl, watch that scene, dig in the Dancing Queen

You're a teaser, you turn 'em on
Leave them burning and then you're gone
Looking out for another, anyone will do
You're in the mood for a dance
And when you get the chance...

You are the Dancing Queen, young and sweet, only seventeen
Dancing Queen, feel the beat from the tambourine
You can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life
See that girl, watch that scene, dig in the Dancing Queen

Dig in the Dancing Queen * 3

Jnoel, this song didn't need the movie Muriel's Wedding for it to be brilliant.
This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

True but I was still with anti-disco teenage feelings when I "rediscovered" this one, my other favourite disco song is "Let's all chant" by Michael Something Band

When I was a kid I liked "Gimme Gimme", now it gets on my nerves

Let's All Chant by The Michael Zager Band
With just the lyrics it seems to be the dumbest song ever:
(Ooh ooh)* 4
(Ooh ooh) let's all chant * 4
Your body, my body Everybody move your body *4
Ah ah eh eh let's all chant * 2
(Ooh ooh) your body, your body (Ooh ooh) oh work your body
Ah ah eh eh let's all chant * 2
(Ooh ooh) your body, your body
(Ooh ooh) oh work your body
(Ooh ooh) let's all chant * 4
Your body, my body Everybody move your body * 3
Your body, my body
Everybody jack your body!
(Ooh ooh) le-le-le-le-le-le-le-let's (ooh)
(Ooh ooh) le-le-le-le-le-le-le-let's (ooh ooh)
(Ooh ooh) let's all chant * 4
Ah ah eh eh let's all chant * 2
(Ooh ooh) your body, your body
(Ooh ooh) oh work your body
Your body, my body Everybody move your body * 6
(Ooh ooh) jack your body! * 3
(Ooh ooh) jack, jack, jack your body!

my uncle lasse sandborg was born in 1948.
in the late sixties in Sweden the musicscéne was
cooking. He played bass behind several famous swedish
artists, among others ABBA-Agneta who was his girlfriend
at that time. Before ABBA she was a soloartist.
In the early seventies he had played with guys like
Ike & Tina Turner & Zappa.
He toured Mexico & the States with the band "Salt & Pepper"
& collaborated with Quincy Jones.
Eventually the whole disco scéne started 2 get 2 him
& he got sick with being out on the road all year.
he quit playing & started building up a music center
helping kids with places 2 rehears & music courses.

It's a shame ABBA aren't more well known in the USA - Dancing Queen is so overplayed, despite it being a fabulous song, there are tons of equally stunning ABBA tracks - and ABBA were really not a disco act, they had a few disco-tinged singles that's really it.

THE WINNER IT TAKES IT ALL
OUR LAST SUMMER
THE VISITORS
ON AND ON AND ON

SHOULD I LAUGH OR CRY
HEAD OVER HEELS
WHEN ALL IS SAID AND DONE

S.O.S.

KNOWING ME, KNOWING YOU
THE NAME OF THE GAME
THANK YOU FOR THE MUSIC
SUMMERNIGHT CITY
CHIQUITITA

And those are just some of the best singles, haven't even touched the album tracks!!

As for Euro-disco, well that's a broad term, depends what you mean.

I'm a big fan of Hi-NRG, and disco acts such as Cerrone and Giorgio Moroder productions.

Donna Summers 'I Feel Love', especially the Patrick Cowley mix, was the birth of modern dance music.

I gues there are a lot of R&B/Hip-Hop heads here so, I guess it's hard to express the great qualities of these forms of dance music, and hi-NRG.
