Love his work with Chaka and Bonnie Raitt, I've been telling one of my friends lately, for all of my affinity toward pianists/keyboardists, I'm surprised I haven't checked his discography as well even though I dug what he did with other folks so far.

Got any suggestions?

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

One of my favorite Hornsby tunes. Many people don't notice how dark The Valley Road's lyrics are: Country boy gets the rich man's daughter pregnant, she "disappears" for a little, then she dumps him.

Love how Hornsby's fingers almost fly off the piano in the last minute or so... music New Jersey has their Bruce. In Virginia, we have our own. biggrin

He does fantastic work. "Shadowlands" from the soundtrack of Spike Lee's Bamboozled is my favorite of his. Breathtakingly beautiful.

πρὸς ὀλίγον ἐστὶ τὸ ζῆν
τὸ τέλος ὁ χρόνος ἀπαιτεῖ.”

With The Range, try The Way It Is and Scenes From The Southside. Solo, try Hot House. It contains the excellent "Walk in the Sun".

On another note, I remember seeing Sheena Easton's videos for "Strut" and "Sugarwalls" and seeing him on the keyboards and thinking, 'Bruce Hornsby's in this???' lol

The only pianist who comes near the love I have for the sound of Lisa Coleman's playing. Interesting enough, credits have complained both can overpower a song with their playing. Whatever.

You mean critics?

I agree nod In "Love Me Still" it sounded like a duet as opposed to a pianist accompanying a singer, but how is that a bad thing? lol Gotta love those critics.....

I think sometimes professional critics are just more expertly equipped to conceal bias rather than to expose some larger truth.
