Rick James is BACK! The website & forum, that is:
Any chance the site and discussion forum will thrive this long after the passing of the King of Punk Funk?

I didn't find it to be. Funky, but not in a good way for me, just a shell of a website. Particularly when you consider how much funking time they had to do it in.

I've been watching that site for a while now. Whoever was left in charge of Rick's estate seems to be grossly mismanaging it (...if his website is any indicator), from what I can see as an outsider looking in.

True. | |

That board used to be a good afternoon jog. And of course as a format for Pyro John's stories it was . I did find a link on the new site to a facebook page where I found a vid of Bruce Hornsby and Ricky Skaggs throwin' down on a bluegrass version of "Superfreak." That was awesome in and of itself, but I remember back in about 1982 seeing Rick sing a version of "Superfreak" while imitating Johnny Cash. That shit was off the ...
PDogz, did you find the article about the lawsuit the estate was in with a record label? I didn't have time to read it, and l just want out of the site, frankly.

It seems the website is run by Universal, his facebook account seems to be as well. Just like the white winged dove...

No, I haven't read that yet. But it sounds like that would explain a lot! Will definitely check it out.

So then Universal must have "the goods". They better "bring it!". Although I'm feeling like if Rick were still with us, things probably wouldn't be much more organized than they are.

The site has nothing. No news on a new album and nothing about the documentary that has been in the can since 2007. What's the point?

It's a damned shame. The SPAMMERS have already taken over the Rick James forums, and there's not a moderator or administrator in sight! There's not even any contact info anywhere on the site (...that I can locate).
I don't know what it is about maintaining a Rick James presence on the Internet that causes such apathy. I feel sorry for Rick, and how they're just allowing his legacy to die along with him. It always seemed to me that Rick's music was more important than that. Perhaps I've been wrong all this time.
May Rick be resting peacefully.

I really do not understand why it is taking so long to get all of his albums, especially the ones circa 1978-1985, back into print. We are coming up on seven years since he passed and basically the only albums you can buy are Street Songs and a bunch of compilations that recycle the same 15 songs. This is the one time I am missing the greed from the music industry. I have money in hand that I want to spend on these albums but apparently Universal does not want it!
There have been overpriced reissues of Fire It Up and Garden of Love from Hip-O Select and I expect more albums to follow but these tend to go out of print after about a year or so.

It will take some time to build a board on that shitty foundation, if it can be done at all. They need to get Katherine Jackson on that to sort some bullshit out.

Sadly, Rick lost his "Katherine Jackson" while he was away at Folsom. That's the thing, when Rick passed away, he didn't leave anyone behind that would have looked after his estate like a Mom would. Instead, Rick was probably only left with lawyers to look after his affairs (...and we know how trustworthy lawyers are...). They can't even manage to get Rick's catalog back out there; probably fighting over who-get's-what percent of whatever.
As it stands, his site is starting to look like a monument to apathy.

That's why I snatched those remastered/reissues up the minute they dropped, lol.
