Who surpassed the Beatles?
I'm sorry Glee Clubs don't count. [Edited 4/14/11 13:41pm]

Well this was bound to happen, every time an episode airs, at least 2 or 3 of the songs they cover end up in the Billboard, because it's purely based on sales.... and they are selling.
But all things considered, it's a pretty meaningless statistic. |

Exactly. | |

It's impressive from a marketing standpoint, but...no.
All they do is take the most popular songs in history, and put a terrible but slick vocal on top of it.
When Glee gets a hit, it's nothing but a tribute to Journey or the other original artists who made the songs special in the first place.
I said it before, they are just a modern day Pat Boone. My Legacy

they are surpassing a group that actually wrote and played every hit they ever had, whose popularity was not connected to a TV show but was about music.

It's called pop culture. It's going to happen eventually. I just choose to ignore it. I mean it's there yes but I avoid it.

I happen to enjoy Glee. Regardless, you're all blowing this completely out of proportion. This is primarily the result of the new chart rules. Every Glee episode means 5-6 songs are released and they're all eligible to chart. Furthermore, the Beatles would still be ahead of the Glee cast if they had stayed together for an extended period of time. It's also worth noting that the Glee tracks aren't blockbuster hits. I believe the show's only top-10 hits to date are its debut ("Don't Stop Believin'") and "Teenage Dream." That being said, the Glee covers are usually well done and I'd consider them the bright spots on today's charts. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

I agree with this and I enjoy the show too.
I feel the need to point out to some of the people criticizing it, that they are doing original material now too. On the last episode they did two original songs, "Loser Like Me" and "Get It Right" and they are both great songs.
They are planning to do more original material in the future too. |

yeah the songs are perfectly enjoyable, like broadway. There is a reason people like it.
Personally I think they are so similar to the originals, but with soul-less vocals, that they just aren't worth the time, but I see why they are popular. My Legacy

^^^ Lea Michele is far from soul-less. She has robes and she has monkeys, lazy diamond studded flunkies....

Folks also need to pay attention to the fact that yeah...they passed the Beatles in chart entries, but each of Glee's hits are gone from the chart within a week.
Anyhoo...here's my fav Bad sync on the vid but whatever...

True, and neither are Kevin McHale, Amber Riley or Charice. And Dianna Agron has the prettiest vocal tone. |

I don't think she's bad, but I think all their versions suck the soul out of the music. Can't help it My Legacy

Lea Michele and Amber Riley are the two best singers by a long shot IMO. Call me crazy, but I think Amber sang "Hate on Me" better than Jill Scott did. I also think the Glee mashup of Bon Jovi's "It's My Life" and Ushers "Confessions Part 2" is more interesting and enjoyable than either original song.
Also, I'm still in awe of Jonathan Groff's performance of "Bohemian Rhapsody." No, it obviously doesn't touch the original, but it's damned impressive regardless.
