James Brown The Singles Why are they limited to ridiculous numbers like 5,000 and how are you supposed to get them when they're sold out?

Probably, these don't sell much and they don't want to spend a lot of money printing up a lot. If it's Hip-O, then they've been doing the limited printings of releases for years. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

It's the Hip-O ones I'm talking about. I guess I'll have to buy whatever turns up at my record store Which isn't much, if any at all. It's a shame that the James Brown catalogue has been treated this way.

Doesn't your record store do special orders? Some won't stock albums that they don't think will sell, so they don't have to worry about returns. I think they do that, not too sure though.

I am loving these sets! I just got my hands on volume ten (1975-1979) and it is much better than I was expecting.
These are all still available on amazon for decent prices. For a while vol. 2 was going for fifty bucks or more but it seems to be reasonably priced now. I urge you to scoop them up (starting with the earliest volumes) as soon as you can because once they become scarce they will be very expensive.

You can also try Dusty Groove. I don't know if they carry these sets, but they specialize in rare and obscure albums and groups. The singles series started in 2005, they are on the 10th volume right now. Only th e first two sets are sold out, but just the physical copy. You can get them in mp3 format.
There is a reason they only make limited copy's as you can see why, in over 6 years, only two sets have sold out. If they went fast, they print more copies. A few of the series go over the 5,000 like select Supremes which went to 8,000 copies. PRINCE: Always and Forever
