Part of this thread is just a silly mess lol

About Whitney, I don't love all her songs, but I do like some of them. As someone who was born right around the time she hit the big scene, I grew up without hearing funk on the radio. Since one of my older cousins took all my parent's older records (that's another story confused lol ) I basically had to look it up myself these past couple years on the internet lol I don't have a problem with Whitney or her type of music, but I would like to see funk come back as well. I just don't understand why both types of music can't exist. Why does it have to be 1 or the other?

and don't get me started on Clive Davis lol disbelief

Record companies became stupid and lazy. Maybe it was once radio playlists became completely homogenised in the late '70s/early '80s but at some point once a certain artist became popular the number one priority became pumping out as many clones of that artist as possible. Look at rock music, in the '80s "hair metal" bands were everywhere, some of them were good, most of them were not, but once Nirvana appeared practically overnight they all disappeared. Then we got a million Nirvana clones. Seems to me they would be better off trying to push something that is very different to what is popular rather than putting out an inferior version of something better but maybe the public are just getting what we deserve?

True. It's sad really. I prefer "artists" to be individuals but the people in charge care more about what they think the trend is. It just has the reverse effect on me, as I get tired of all the clones. disbelief

I'll admit to always liking Shoot Em Up Movies. With a title like that how could you

not like it. To me, it just had that old 70's Stlylistics-The Moments type flavor to it but

i wanted to piss on that damn Two Occasions all day long. Never cared for that song.

All the Deele songs that i do have are the ones from their debut album, Material Thangz,

and Shoot Em Up Movies. Everything else is just meh. I guess after the Calloway boys

and others producers from the Solar camp got tied up with other projects following the

Deele's first album and forced the Deele to produce their own stuff, it just wasn't the

same magic after the first album.

Did you ever hear "I'll Send You Roses" from the second album? Great slow jam! I wonder why that song wasn't released as a single.

Exactly. That's why I couldn't stand her from day one because the more popular she became, more and more acts like her showed up all over the radio and more and more funk acts disappeared. I would have been perfectly fine with acts like her on the radio and simply change the channel when one of their dull songs came on and come back to the station when they were playing something good. But when something I like starts becoming extinct because of some dull bullshit taking over, damn right I'm going to bitch and bash it for everything it's worth. And what's worse, I was almost 18 when it started taking it's turn for the worse. That's taking away from my fun nightlife as an adult (drinking age was 18 back then) and everyone had told me in the early 1980s, you'll have plenty of time to party once you turn 18. Well hell, they didn't tell me that music was going to take a drastic turn back to the days of the 14th century with all that boring shit. If I had known previously what was going to happen, I would have snuck into clubs when I was underage. lol

I hated that song too. lol Did Babyface have anything to do with that one? Hell, they should have just told him to just sing and play his instrument and keep his mouth shut the rest of the time. lol

Then why do people spend so much money on them? It's easy to blame the record companies for passing over talent to sate the want of the consumer, but its not like they create the taste. People want it.

Go back up and look at where he quote me and asked me the question. He quoted me right after I quoted SoulAlive talking about "I'll Send You Roses" by The Deele so when he asked me if I liked that particular song, I just assumed he was referring to The Deele. I never dreamed he was referring to....HER. lol

"I wanna dance with somebody" is a great pop song. Great production, great vocals, great breakdown, great chord change at the end.

As 80's pop songs go, thats got to be up their as being one of the defining 80's pop songs.

It's not rnb or soul though LOL, but her vocals make a good song into a great one.
