Perhaps we should do a "top 10 favorit songs" from her new album and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

I pre-ordered this CD online from a British store and it only came today.
It says Made in Thailand Is this the official European version? So I'm listening to it for the very first time. . . . . . . this ...and it's still playing

Fantastic album. All the songs are top notch except for the dreadful title track and "Love Profusion" is only decent.

Wonderful album! The lyrics are very personal. It's as if Madonna opened up her diary and based an entire CD around it.I listen to it all the time. It's not one of her more commercial albums, and with the exception of a few tracks,it's not really a dance/club record at all.Consider it her "Lovesexy".
Currently,my favorite song is "Easy Ride".Man,that song is amazing!! But I like all the songs. The weakest track is "I'm So Stupid".

A good album. I love Nothing Fails, Mother & Father and X-Static Process. I cant get used to Nobody Knows me, and Die another day sounds a cold and rigid to my ears as it did the first time i heard it. These two songs are madonna at her worst IMO. The rest of the album is of a very good standard however.
Some of the lyrics could have done a bit of working on, but maybe that was the idea to keep them simplistic. As a mainstream pop artist she's light years ahead of the pack, and Im really pleased shes taken the time to learn an instrument. She cant dance around on stage forever, so this will be an interesting avenue for her to go down. I dont think it will sell well though. It doesnt have enough radio friendly standout tracks, unlike Music which was not as good an album, but had Music and Dont Tell Me which were wicked singles.

The best moments of "Music" are actually stronger to me than anything on "American Life" (ie. Impressive Instant, What it Feels Like for a Girl, Paradise not for me, and Gone), but American Life is definitely more cohesive.
I find it to be one of her weaker efforts over her career, but compared to the rest of the music world today, it's above average. There are 3 or 4 really good tracks here. Pretty mediocre for Madonna though.

I like the album but I've been listening to a lot of the earlier stuff lately. I was listening to "Pre-Madonna" and "Madonna" guite a bit last week and just this weekend put "Like A Prayer" into the CD player and listened to it all the way through a few times. That album would have been her best if she would have included "Supernatural Love" on there. It doesn't really fit but it was such a hot funky song and could have been a huge hit.

I agree. This is a very non-commercial album. Most of these songs would never make it on radio. There are only two radio-friendly tracks "Hollywood" and "Love Profusion" and even those aren't as inviting as,say,"Music".I think those could easily become Top 40 hits though. The rest of the songs don't seem to have catchy hooks or choruses, which is necessary these days if you want a hit.

I love the title track And,I think it was the logical choice to be the first single. What did you think of the Missy remix?

I don't understand how all of you say it's not a commercial album. It is. At least to European standards. Still Americans consider groups like New Order, Pet Shop Boys, Erasure and such to be INDIE!!! And American Life is a GOOD SONG 'cause I say so.

And American Life is a GOOD SONG 'cause I say so. electroclash and anything that sounds like it isn't really "in" here. there really isnt a commercial outlet for it as of yet. i think the production has gotten stale as they repeated what they did on "ray" and "music" but songs like nothing fails shine through that. i personally think she's only getting better. and i cannot stand that awful remix missy did.
