Larry Graham on Raphael Saadiq's new album Larry Graham is adding some vocals and playing bass on the hidden track of Raphael Saadiq's new album "Stone Rollin'". He is also mentioned in the liner notes as "The reason I play the bass". Now if only Larry could make Prince and Raphael Saadiq make some music together... Aka Mister T at moquake.com

Great cut man! I was surprised when I heard him on the hidden cut, as I only have a HQ download of the album (although I will be at the wrecka stow to buy this album in May). Larry can still pull off his studio chops outside of working on stuff with Prince. Loved it! Check me out and add me on:

I'd be interested in hearing it. Larry gets a lot of unwarranted bullshit from whiny Prince fans. JERKIN' EVERYTHING IN SIGHT!!!!!

I know right! It ain't Larry's sole fault that Prince's music and mindset changed...he's a grown ass man. We can't forget Larry's influence on popular music history and his own legacy. Leave P outta this for once and for all! Check me out and add me on:

Is it okay for people to just not like Larry Graham?
I mean, is that okay? Is it alright? Should I wait my turn to ask you?

I don't know. But all I know is that the reasons behind the strong dislike for Larry Graham is getting old and dumb. Sure, the JW jazz is not everyone's thing, but it's all about the music anyway. I'm one of the few people who actually respects him for the musical genius and pioneer he is. Leave the other craziness at the door. Check me out and add me on:

What track on "Stone Rollin'" does Larry play bass and sing on? 3121 #1 THIS YEAR

It's a hidden track called "The Perfect Storm" that comes after "The Answer" on the Stone Rollin' album.

people really do need 2 stop blaming larry and look back at prince career prince has always been struggling with relgion in his work for example warner bros made him change the part in lets go crazy are we gonna let the devil bring us down, he does a song called the ladder a man in search of god, a song called god, grafiiti bridge. i think warner bros held prince back from compeletly getting in2 his god phase check it when he went indepedent he let his god love shine. maybe larry influenced the jw thing but prince was clearly headed in a spiritual direction regardless

Getting back to Ray Ray...after the needless Larry Graham debacle
This album is giving me a strong Sly influence throughout. I'm floored by it. Anybody else noticing that? Oh yeah, and the "Day Dreams" track sounds like a lost Prince/W&L cut. Love it. Check me out and add me on:

I've seen Larry live once, earlier this year. It ain't my kinda music. He seemed to be very, VERY good at what he does. Unfortunately, I just don't like -what he does-... I think a lot of people are like me. They're just not into it. I think the JW stuff is too much of a cop out. (Not to say people don't judge him for that, but cmon.)

So, I assume you can't dig any early Sly or GCS material, huh? I'll admit he's way past his prime now, but from hearing the new cut with Raphael, his voice is still present. Concert-wise, I hate that he keep doing Sly's stuff. He should dig deep into his legendary stuff with GCS. I'm glad he does "Hair" nowadays in concert. It just never gets old. Larry has a rich legacy but he hasn't done a good job of preserving it... at least with GCS.

Yeah that's about the only thing that really irks me about Larry. He has released some of the greatest funk albums with GCS after his legendary tenture with Sly. I mean, it's like he skips over all of that. I've always admired his deep and engrossing legacy as a musician, composer, innovator, and composer. His 80's solo stuff is meh, but I can take some of that also. Check me out and add me on:

I avoid that part. | |

I mean Larry was one helluva singer, but alot of that stuff was sappy MOR balladry after disco wiped his funk dominance away.
"One In A Million You", "Just Be My Lady", "When We Get Married" over "The Jam", "Water", "Your Love", and "Ain't No Fun To Me"? HELL NO!
But he did have some funk cuts in the 80s too...

I love Sly. And that's the cool thing - I enjoy his work in conjunction with others who are talented like him. I don't think Prince and Larry are a good match, thematically or musically.
I'm not a fan of the GCS stuff because I really don't care for Larry's vocals up front taking the lead.

I like this. It has an "If You Want Me to Stay" vibe to it. I haven't really been feeling too much of Raphael's latest stuff. It seems like its trying to hard to be instant vintage or something. However, this one is nice. Oh, and LG is the reason I learned to play bass as well. He's a legend and I dig him. I thought he was great opening for Prince at MSG when I saw him. I do wish he would do more of the GCS stuff in conjunction with the Sly stuff. However, hearing the Sly stuff is great because Sly surely ain't putting it down now. perfection is a fallacy of the imagination...

its hard to understand why a prince fan wouldnt like atleast some of sly and the fAmily stones output, the funky stuff is similar to what prince did (he was influenced by sly and larry after all). I'd like to see larry one day, if i get a chance.
