Rihanna, Justin Bieber, and Kanye West Accused of Stealing Songwriting Credits Date: 4/6/2011 10:40:32 AM | Aleta Watson In a recent interview, some of your favorite "singer-songwriters" were slammed with allegations of not writing many of the hit songs they are famous for. Reportedly, Rihanna, Justin Bieber, and Kanye West have been accepting publishing credits with full knowledge that the songs were not written by them.

I hear the computer that sings for them and makes their "beats" is working on a lawsuit too.

I'm thinking its time for the world to re-define "artist". Kanye mayyyyyyybe (huge stretch) but the other 2 nuh-uh.

I swear a similar article came out some time ago calling out Avril Lavigne as well. (I remember, because I just read it not too long ago.)
Also, I know that Lady Gaga writes her own songs, because they contain some wtf lyrics.

This is all too much. Next you're gonna say her name is really April Lapigne.
WHY GOD WHY | |

I bet that you wouldn't mind cashing the cheque. (Do people still cash cheques?)

Actually i would rather lose the check and have Rihanna F*** me for songwriting credits "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

I don't get why mafia-type charges aren't levied against these artist? They pretty much are using coercion to steal. Space for sale...

She's a Prince fan & on Twitter, maybe you can get her to respond on here?

Not surprised but I've also read in other articles that some writers just take an advance payment and basically sell their songs to the recording vocalist. It's not fair, but it keeps the writers in business as the top names will want to work with them again.

If the writer gets along with the artist they give the song to and their label ask them to give the artist a percentage they allow it until shit gets serious and a fallout leads to a lawsuit. I'm guessing this happened in the case of Rob Fusari though he only composed (or co-composed) one song with Lady Gaga despite his claims elsewhere on his suit.

The same way the Bihari brothers, Colonel Tom Parker, Don Arden, Lonnie Simmons, Gene Griffin, the mafia, and many others did. This has been going on ever since the record business began. Why are people still surprised this goes on? You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Because people are under the assumption that because those people were exposed later on that this would end but alas it hasn't. I never believed Lonnie Simmons wrote any of the songs he's credited for especially with the Gap Band. He ripped off those brothers. Gene Griffin ripped off Guy. Of course we know about Col. Tom Parker's issue with RCA to give Elvis credit on songs he didn't write (Elvis did arrange and produce in a lot of the sessions he participated in though).

Did anyone other than eight year old girls really believe that Rihanna or Justin Bieber wrote any of their shit in spite of what their album credits might state??

Could somebody please explain to me how someone steals a songwriters song?

Rob Fusari's claims are utter bullshit, but he definitely co-wrote more than just 1 song with her. Hell, the majority of her pre-The Fame sessions work was all done with Fusari. Most of her Fusari tracks have leaked, as well.

I don't know anything about them, but the average person doesn't read or care about who wrote songs. Like they used to say on American Bandstand, they like a song because "it has a good beat and I can dance to it". You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton
