Elvis Costello: One of the most brilliant artists in the past five decades. His back catalog is rich and voluminous.
I agree, but I hardly know anyone who listens to his greatest hits either!
I don't think he had many hits in the USA. I don't remember hearing him on the radio. I do recall they used to show one of his videos on Friday Night Videos. Usually if an act doesn't have any hits per se, their compilations are generally labled "The Best Of". You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton |

I'd never considered that
He does get a bit of radio play on classic stations, but more here in the Bay Area than in LA. I guess I know some fans of his, but that is usually limited to his first 4 albums
I started with his greatest hits but eventually got them all |

Obviously not for everyone, but for most frat guys who make up a large percentage of his fan base

I think it goes even further than frat boys. I think there's a lot of posers out there period who claim to love all things Bob Marley because it's 'cool' to say you're a fan.

Excellent! A Costello aficionado once so aptly stated that an artist of Costello's stature has little need for the capricious nature of hit songs. |
