What artists do you think have been reduced to a "Greatest Hits" artist when their albums are masterpieces? I know this is a long title, but a topic I've had on my mind a wile also.
It seems that so many of my favorite artists have been reduced to a "Greatest Hits" artist and no longer an album artist.
A great example is Al Green. Al had so many great albums in the 70s and people tend to overlook the albums and grab the greatest hits. I don't know about you, but I'll take the "I'm Still In Love With You," "Let's Stay Together," and "Living For You" over the greatest hits package anyday.
Are there any other artists you can think of that have been reduced to a "Greatest Hits" package? **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

I can’t think of any artists off hand but I tend to go the greatest hits route and if I really enjoyed the artists I’ll start getting their albums. I see it more with older artists (greatest hits)

Slightly different, but Swing Out Sister & Bobby McFerrin are considered "one hit wonder" acts, when they still release albums today. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I think a lot of times these artists have too many albums or they are out of print and the greatest hits are more accessible.

''sigh'' this is very true, Marley had some great albums... Uprising is one of my personal faves but this seem's to be the most popular Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

Guns N' Roses. I rarely ever hear people talk about album cuts from "Use Your Illusion 1 & 2" and even "AFD". Only the singles. |

Elton John for sure, though he is known for some classic albums, his greatest hits is one of the biggest sellers ever
Billy Joel, same as above, has one of the best catalogs around
a-ha, thats for me, reduced to their greatest hits package "25" overseas, though a 2cd event u dont get the full effect of their albums which are all classic, especially from 2000 on.
Stevie Wonder, Madonna would be another she is rarely talked about for her albums, just her singles. "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

Yep, and the title track. "Chinese Democracy" is a masterpiece. I actually prefer it overall to "Use Your Illusion". It's close, but I like the more industrial tinges obviously as a NIN fan. |

Funny you say that, it was CD which made me want to try NIN.
