Why a guilty pleasure? It's a masterpiece! The music is great, and the lyrics are clever. I think people act like that cause of the 80's keyboards, but it's great.

I looovee this song. One of the highlights of 80's Pop for me..... Young George Michael had such a pristine, clear, pure voice--"Somebody tell meee...". Love it.

I'm loving all the Wham! posts lately including my one for Young Guns cool

Wham! is not a cheesy pop band, yeah they had Wake me up & even some of there early stuff as funky as it is was kind of campy. But they had 3 good albums 7 these boys had soul

Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

They always say image gives you an assumption of how that act is. Unfortunately for them being handsome as fuck (like Peter Frampton), they got pegged as pretty boys rather than a genuine act.

I remember Roland Orzabal (Tears For Fears) saying in the mid 1980's something like "I consider it an insult to be thrown in with Wham!. Americans easily accept them because of their tans and beach shorts image".

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Eh, i'm a huge fan of TFF and at the time since they where a more political group i guess they didn't want to be linked in with someone who had a ' ''cheesyboy'' band image

Regardless still 2 great bands cool

True!, but either way most band's that are considered bubble gum pop didn't have the vocals of George Michael wink

But damn it Andrew was great to, people think he was just a second banana and i read that bothered George the bad press he always got, Andrew was a good guitar player, good singer. He deserves a little more credit i think

TFF had a dour serious image. They didn't smile that much in photos. razz

back in the day, I had heard that Andrew's dad was loaded and funded Wham!'s efforts to become recording artists. Not even sure if this was true, but it always gave me the impression that George had the talent and Andrew was brought along because of Daddy Rich... and had no real talent. So, this is not true that Andrew was talentless rich kid?

So who did the writing in the group? And which songs can you hear Andrew singing?

George definitely had the talent. Andrew's only intent was to get girls. George's was to sing for millions of people. Andrew didn't even wanna do it anymore so when George told him he wanted to move on, Andrew was happy to oblige. Andrew did put out one album but his heart wasn't into it. He might've been pushed to do it but he faded from view after that. He and George are still friends to this day.

George was the group's songwriter, but Andrew received a co-writing credit for the singles "Club Tropicana" and "Careless Whisper."

That’s good to know I was watching George Michael’s Twenty Five: The videos and was enjoying the Wham! Stuff on there.
