Not as tacky as the Casio-straight-outta-Barney & Friends-horns from his 1st single off that album. All that money and the yodel bug wouldn't hire a horn section.

I'm reading that while watching the video for it right now falloff disbelief

Oh I didn't mean that in a good way because many do consider him to be the Marvin Gaye of our time, which is a truly atrocious comparison and statement. But R. Kelly himself has defined himself as that. I remember reading Michael Eric Dyson's Marvin Gaye bio, Mercy Mercy Me: The Art and Demons of Marvin Gaye and there's one section where he interviews Kelly and Kel drew comparisons of his musical achievements to those of Gaye's, which made me skip that part all together. I can't stand that either so I feel you and I wasn't comparing artists. biggrin

[Edited 4/3/11 16:26pm]

Yep nod Robert Kelly have always billed himself as the heir to Marvin Gaye's legacy, whether explicitly or otherwise. And when some writers(namely from Ebony & Vibe) damn near called him the "90s Marvin Gaye", you know it will go to his head.

And the David Ritz+Marvin connection seemed so obvious to me too nod Granted, I'm kinda interested to read this, provided he speaks the truth(and I do mean, ALL). We'll see.

Silverchild,

Your good faith observation was clear. There was in no way an attempt to "compare artists" - this should be clear to the most remedial thinker. I see he's really trying to play on Marvin's legacy because David Ritz is doing this book with him. You simply pointed out what you thought was a tatic being utilized. The idea rings with the strong possibility of accuracy.

I still don't understand the affection people have for this man; could you suggest 10 songs (fast and slow) to me that might break it down for me? For some reason, well before his video/trial, I have always shut him down quick.

Really ? ? What the heck? Does this guy have tiger's blood in his system?

Robert was never gonna name his albums any regular title so he surely wasn't going to do that with the book. The cover is silly too. falloff

Yeah that's another thing I can say about Kelly. Most of his album titles are weird: Born Into the 90's, R., TP-2.Com (which is the sequel to 12 Play, if you guys don't know...it's acronym stands for The Play 2, not sure what .Com is!?). This book's title is horrendously funny. Soula Coaster? Hmmm...
