Impressive versions. One has a jazz flow and a chilling coldness when you hear him talk about heroin addiction (which was what many Vietnam veterans were apparently having at the time) and another version with a more street, doo-wop take of it. Both great. Marvin hit the button on both renditions. Nice to hear Marvin & the Originals harmonizing on the 1971 remixed version. |

Ndeed... I love that falsetto at the end of the "Sad Tomorrows" version..."Take me away, take me away..." -that just hits me in the gut every time.....

YES! That's why I almost preferred it over the one they used for the album. |

By the way...did Marvin use falsetto much on record? I was trying to think of some more examples.....

"Flyin' High" was one of those songs I wished he had done more live. Sure the musicians were off beat with Marvin during the Kennedy Center '72 performance of it but I think Marvin could've really shocked his audience doing this song live. Maybe if he didn't die so soon maybe we would've seen it as part of a fan request. |

So are saying that Marvin Gaye fronting Judas Priest would be the ultimate musical experience? |

I found it kinda odd that they didn't include "Mercy Mercy Me" in it... maybe they'll do it for the 40th anniversary re-release (yes they are re-releasing the album sometime in May I believe). |

Nah, "What's Going On" lol
I have to admit it took me a minute to figure out what you were talking about.
Now I get what you mean. When he did "Mercy Mercy Me" he actually made it a NEW song but you can tell it was the same song "It's all about the ecology"...
I was sitting there looking stupid. |
