MEN, Robyn and Roisin Murphy.

Robyn and Roisin are my favorite Euro-pop artists around. I first got into Roisin when she was in Moloko (as I am sure most Roisin fans did?) and of course everyone knows Robyn's "Show Me Love".

I've seen Robyn live twice on the Body Talk tour, but Roisin hasn't toured the US anytime recently that I can recall. Shame. Robyn is a force of nature live. If you get a chance to see her, do it. A bunch of critics have been trying to break Robyn in the US but for some reason it's just not happening.

They tried to break Roisin in the US too but, alas, it just didn't work. I think that Roisin's music must be too difficult for people to really get or like and that Robyn is just not given enough exposure. Plus, she is not quite as quirky as a Lady Gaga or Katy Perry and she doesn't have the physical beauty of someone like Beyonce or Britney Spears. Is she doomed?

Roisin has all but given up on trying to break in the US. When Moloko broke back when "Fun For Me" was a minor hit from one of the 90s Batman soundtracks (and after that with "The Time Is Now"), the label put a lot of heat on them to conform to American standards and they refused. Thus, they never really broke out of the Bubbling Under category and masterpiece albums like Statues went unnoticed.

Roisin now seems a bit disenchanted with the album format after her 2 solo albums didn't really hit any nerves in the industry past one track, "Ramalama", being featured on Grey's Anatomy. Her song "Dear Miami" also was a minor success from her 2nd solo album.

Roisin:

And then there's MEN! MEN is the new group headed by Le Tigre's JD Samson. JD Samson is a transman keyboardist punk funk visionary. I've seen MEN twice now (once opening for The Gossip in 2009 and once headlining in 2011). They are a fantastic group if you dig dance pop from a semi-queer perspective (think Prince pre-1984).

I like Robyn. Her voice is just a little too high for me ... which has always been my problem. I hear she is really good live. I missed her the two times she came to the Fine Line in Minneapolis...but I dont know enough songs of hers to really bring myself there. Do U Knwo What It Takes, Handle Me, With Every Heartbeat and Show Me Love are the only songs of hers I have.

Roisin, I found out through the org and really really like her. I just do not know where to begin with her music. I liked Overpowered, Let Me Know, Sow Into You, Footprints and Orally Fixated..but I think her music would fit my groove funk dance style more than Robyns UK dance motif she has been doing for a while.

I love Roisin Murphy and her work with Moloko! She really should have broke out here in the states. If only people were more open minded and not into American idol, and Top 40 crap, she would do well I think.

I've seen Robin twice in the past year and am looking forward to her appearance at Coachella in mid April. Robin's energy on stage in unmatched by any of her contemporaries. Both shows I attended were so dynamic it left me speechless. The audience dancing and stomping at both shows felt like they were going to bring the balcony crashing down. She's fierce on stage. I like that's she's a bit odd too.

I may bookmark this thread since I like what I've heard from Robyn so far (in recent releases) and Roisin Murphy rules. And I will check out MEN when I can. Thanks, Spin.

Thanks for the responses, guys! I'm glad there's more fans out there, lol.

Robyn's stuff from the last 2 albums is really where it's at for her. The self-titled Robyn from 2005 is pretty amazing. And of course, the 2 Body Talk EPs and the Body Talk LP are all flawless.

This is from the last show I saw Robyn at:

And here's some more Roisin:

Really, Roisin's last album Overpowered is her best yet and the direction she was going in after that (with tracks like Orally Fixated and Momma's Place) was exciting, but then she dropped off. She started doing a ton of collabs. Some were hot to death:

Check it out!

BTW, Robyn fans... Not sure if you guys are friended or whatever to VEVO on Facebook or your social media outlet of choice. But a while back (maybe 6 months ago) they asked us to submit questions for an interview to be posted at a later date. Sure enough, my comment/question was answered (nearly pooped myself when I saw it). Here is the interview if you want to watch. My comment (if you are morbidly curious) is at 1:48.

(Edit: She mentions Prince being a big influence on her.)

Thanks! Yeah "Never Enough" is a classic. It's always been kind of one of those songs I wish Moloko had released themselves. razz Like instead of "Indigo"!!

I am excited for more Roisin stuff. I think this is her most recent track:

Hopefully we get a new album soon!??!?!?!?
