The band - The Band

Anyone out here a fan of these guys?

Unfortuantely the core band didn't have a very long shelf life. But I worship the ground they walk on. The live record they did with Allen Toussaint (Rock of Ages) will never be topped by anyone for me personally as far as live albums go.

Maybe that is their strong suit. They are like the best bar band ever. I like them live more than I like their records.

I can get down with that. There's a certain charm to their studio records that most definitely isn't most folks' cup of tea. I love their first three studio albums and their last one. There's a few in betweeen that leave much to be desired.

But if you dig Last Waltz, (and I dig it a lot as well) you'd really be doing yourself a favor by checking out Rock of Ages. Allen Toussaint's horn charts are crazy good. And the band themselves are just on fire.

It is hands down my favorite live album by anyone, and that's saying alot.
