Soul song of the day, Wishing Well, by Terrence Trent D'arby

Shit, when this came out I thought, "this guy is the new Prince." This is how soul should be written: Simple, but catchy and bluesy. What a groove. :

Co-sign! A really fantastic song, a true classic. I will never forget how cool it was when Sananda opened his shows in 2001 with this song, it was the best opening of a concert I can think of. Just yesterday I bought a DVD of 80s classics which features "Wishing Well", and today I watched the video of it...

The one memory i have of TTD back in the '80s which never leaves me is when he performed Dance Little Sister On Top Of The Pops and attempted his splits and fell over..

..oh as for Wishing Well that tune is sublime...

I loved the whistling. One thing I don't remember was him declaring that he was going to be bigger than The Beatles or somebody, and subsequently nobody took him seriously. Like he had really big ego that didn't keep him on the charts too much after that song.

Good song nod

Kissing like a bandit stealing time
Underneath the sycamore tree
Cupid by the hour sends valentines
To my sweet lover and me
Slowely
Surely
Yours appetite is more than I know
Sweetly
Softly
I'm falling in love with you

Wish me love a wishing well to kiss and tell
A wishing well of butterfly tear
Wish me love a wishing well to kiss and tell
A wishing well of crocodile cheers

I've recently "re-discovered" the album Wishing Well is on. Man what a great album and artist. I remember how disappointed I was with the album after this one...Fish or Fantasy or something like that. That thing sucked.

I didn't like TTD that much when he arrived at the scene, mainly because some people said he was "the new Prince" and I didn't really wanted to hear that at that time, LOL!

But nowadays ( alittle bit older and hopefully more wise) I have to say he's a great artist, he made some terribly good music!
RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

"Neither Fish nor Flesh" His Vegaterian Salute of the mind&Soul before it was in swing to be.that album had some moments but not as clear as His Debut still the Cat has influenced more Acts than people wanna give Him credit for IMHO.

"NFNF" is a great record IMO, I like it no less than "Introducing..".
And talking of artists TTD has influenced, just think of Craig David who lists him as his idol and is a massive star in Europe at the moment

NFNF was actually not too bad of an album. But I think he was trying to make more of an artistic statement, kinda like someone else did a few years ago...

"Wishing Well" is one of the songs of the 80's imho. His lyrics on the "Hardline" album ventured onto the sublime, and "...Well" was no exception.

"...Well" is a very mature song musically. It has the confidence to take its time, yet still remain both rythmic and melodic. Very, very good song.

"Sign Your Name" had beautiful lyrics too.

Thought TTD was slightly under-rated during his comeback. "Delicate" was great. Some say TTD left too much time between his first and second albums. The man himself said his record company, resting on the laurels of "Hardline" and TTD's talent, allowed him free creative range for "Neither Fish...". He said he was like a kiddy in a sweetshop. He intimated that he had too much freedom.

I remember TTD doing "Delicate" on UK's Channel 4 show, 'The White Room' circa 1994. As we know, D'Arby had a long break, and to introduce him, Mark Lamarr (UK DJ), in his Mancunian dead-pan voice, said, "HE'S BACK!!! ...and he's had an haircut." biggrin

Stop cussing Neither Fish Nor Flesh, Y'all.

It fuckin' rocks.

My favourite of T's.

It's only now that critics are reassessing this album and giving it the credit it deserves. The songs may not be as instant as his debut but the music is stacks better.

Now fuck off. wink

Hey, I'm not hating on that one, dude. I actually thought it wasn't a bad album. I especially liked "Billy Don't Fall" & "You Will Pay Tomorrow".
