I do love Crazy. Not sure if I would say it's as good as You See Me Crying, but it's still one of their best ballads.

nod

hell, only the hardcore fans remember You See Me Crying lol

for me, their best 70's ballads are Dream On (obviously) and Seasons of Wither

I wouldn't call Kings and Queens a ballad...

Mia is good but I cannot listen to that song anymore, not after I read how badly Steven treated his first wife/daughter: like shit confused

What do u think about Home Tonight?

oh yes, I forgot that one, it's cool but hardly a classic, in my opinion

in the 70's the biggest hits of Aerosmith were hard-hitting rock songs, while in the post-1986 era it was the other way around: Angel, What It Takes, Cryin', Amazing, Don't Wanna Miss a Thing, Jaded, etc. funny...or perhaps a sign of the times...

"Home Tonight" is phenomenal! The only flaw is that it's too short. It easily could have gone on for another two minutes or so.

I quite like "You See Me Crying." It probably seemed like a wussy song for them to have done at that time but it's better than some of the rock songs on Toys in the Attic ("Round and Round").

I guess it is a ballad but I never considered "Seasons of Wither" to be ballad in the way the above two songs are. Maybe because it has the word "wither" in the title.lol

For me I would much rather have one killer ballad per album rather than loading up on them like they did on Get a Grip. I think that after "Angel" was a hit they kind of started trying too hard with their ballads. Or maybe they were just more interesting when the band was completely messed up on drugs?

What about live albums? They've released a few of them but I don't think that they've got it right yet. I like the honesty of Live! Bootleg (no overdubs) and it's my favourite but surely they must have tons of vintage live stuff they could use to compile a two disc set? The stuff on Pandora's Box sounds pretty good, I'd love to hear more of it.

The two Classics Live albums are kind of crappy, the drums especially sound pretty terrible.

A Little South of Sanity was contract filler and it sounds like it. It's their Flashpoint or No Security.

I haven't heard Rockin' the Joint or the You Gotta Move dvd. I knid of gave up on Aerosmith after Just Push Play and have been trying to get caught up.

yeah in their later stuff they sound kind of like a power ballad band instead of a hard rock one. I hope they try to get their 70's and Pump raw sound back for their next albums.

Live Bootleg: yep, I also respect the honesty, but some of the live versions are just plain bad. In other words, Live Bootleg is not Alive or Alive II ...

The Texas Jam VHS/dvd is Ok but Tyler's performance is... "lazy", to say the least lol. Too many drugs already...

Live Bootleg I: many people hate the production of this album and the fact that it features a lot of Jimmy Crespo and not enough Joe Perry. Unessential, but curiously, it features, in my opinion, the heaviest live versions of Train Kept a Rollin', Sweet Emotion and Lord of the Thighs. It's almost a "heavy metal" album...similar to the sound of early 80's american metal bands: Riot, Twisted Sister, 80-81 Van Halen etc.

Live Bootleg II: bad drums but then again the album features the best live version of Back in the Saddle I've ever heard... I also dig the slower & more melodic version of Last Child. Good live album of the 1984 reunion...

A Little South of Sanity: yep, contract filler. Too many songs of the Geffen era ("Big Ones-Live" , lol) and TOO MANY ballads... Disc II is better than Disc I anyway...crappy front cover, but cool booklet...

Rockin' the Joint: solid, but not essential. It's refreshing to hear Aerosmith in an small club (sort of) again, but the album is too short.

You Gotta Move DVD: excellent DVD/performance, in my opinion. Awesome track-list, even I Don't Wanna Miss a Thing sounds good, without all those glossy Hollywood strings... the last tour where Steven still seemed to stay in shape...

that said, there are, probably, a lot of bootlegs and youtube videos that are better than the "official" releases...

elmer

Live/Michigan Palace, Detroit 74

Central Park 75

Came across these bootlegs on Demonoid a few years ago, both soundboard, I think the Central Park was a radio broadcast. Prefer them to the Live Bootleg official release even if the sound quality hasn't the same punch.

I heard that Central Park show on www.wolfgangsvault.com, sounds good enough to warrant an official release.

i just download "you gotta move" and the version of "rats in the cellar" on this one is excellent. Some inspired playing from Joe.

Pump is one my fave albums of all time. I always liked classic Aerosmith, but Pump made me a solid fan. It's flawless imo.

Bought Done With Mirrors and Nine Lives last week.

Nine Lives seems to be a very underrated record with a great mix of ballads and upbeat rockers. Fallen Angels and Hole In My Soul are both beautiful tracks, and The Farm is worth the price of the album alone.

I haven't listened to Done With Mirrors that much yet, but I dig the raw demo-esque production. She's On Fire has a killer riff!

Done with mirrors has two killer songs, she's on fire and let the music do the talking. The rest of the cd is fine.

And yeah Joe is a great riff writer for sure.

Why doesn't Nine Lives get any love? It's got Something's Gotta Give, Aint That a Bitch, Crash, The Farm, Attitude Adjustment and the title track. To me there's more good songs on it than Get a Grip.

^^Speaking of "What it takes"... here is recording of it from their last year's Barcelona gig:

I just love the song.
