Who things Christina oversings like crazy She is a good singer,
but she has that tendency to overdo every performance and say "oooh aaah oooh ahaha" at every imaginable place in a song- lady we get that you can belt out the notes , but quit doing it with every freakin performance. [Edited 3/29/11 19:45pm]

Consistently. 99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

Yea, all the time. I just watched the VMA performance you posted in the other thread and she was doing crazy runs for a simple song like "Like A Virgin".

My dad saw her performance at the NBA- when she did the National Anthem.
When she went to the "ooooh aaaa oooh aaa"
He finally couldn't stand it anymore and was like- shut up!!!!!!!!!!!

ALWAYS. | |

ALL THE FUCKING TIME.
That's why she's losing her voice at such a young age.

She over sings like crazy. To the determent of the songs actually.
The music should stand on it's own, and if you can add something original to it, cool. But she does the same over the top shtick on every song. Like adding whip cream on on everything. Steak, soda, beer, pork chops, potato chips, soup, sushi, beans...she adds that same damn whip cream of hers on everything! Whether it's appropriate or not, she adds it. [Edited 3/29/11 21:05pm]

Yest totally
Christina tries to hard to be soulful sometimes. She has a great voice but if you have soul then there is no need for vocal acrobatics too much. This is not opera you are singing from your heart.

She does... But, then again, most of them seem to, these days. It's like how loud you can screech and how much over-embellishment you can put on everything has become the benchmark of how good a singer you are. All these American Idol wannabes do it now, rather than anything more soulful and 'giving' of oneself. And any notion that sometimes 'less is more' seems completely lost.
Billie Holiday would never get a deal, these days. "She just can't sing!", the A&R man would laugh as he signed yet another utterly generic, eardrum-shattering screecher. "Not everything that is faced can be changed; but nothing can be changed until it is faced." - James Baldwin

Totally! But she always has since a lil girl so I just accept it. The oversinging doesn't bother me as much as the "ha" she punctuates at the end of each line.

We dog her but not Patti Labelle, who was always a screaching, non singer. Nice lady, but no great singer.
Christina, Mariah Scary, Beyonsucki can learn from someone like Etta James. All you others say Hell Yea!!

Most of these new R&B type singers oversing these days.......because they were influenced by people WE championed, like Aretha and Patti. The reason why we don't like them is because to us Aretha and Patti did it before them....and better......and because Patti and Aretha did it less on their albums. These singers do it on their albums and live. They do it trying to emulate them....but do a sucky job at it. I don't mind a little "vocal framming" but after a while its like "shut the fuck up".

The only song in which she doesn't oversing is "save me from myself" and i do like that song but...

She definitely oversings live but I don't notice it too much on Bionic. I was late getting it but I've been listening to it quite a bit and I think it's her best album.

i think almost every singer in the last 15 years that has a great vocal range just flat out does not know how to sing, add Beyonce to this list too "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

FIXED. Yep....maybe that's why I tend to like the British female singers more.

that i will give you, with the exception of Leona Lewis who is in that mold of oversinging, but i will take a UK pop group like a Saturdays or Girls Aloud, any day over a new Destinys Child record "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

She´s a good singer but I can´t stand that oversinging she does. I also can´t stand it when other singers do it, no matter who they are ( Patti Labelle, Mary J.Blige,Shelby, or any other melisma queen). I´m getting sick of it. It turns me off of singers that I normally like (or liked). " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

Whoever said earlier in the thread that most modern female singers, oversing, was onto something.
To me though the worst offender would have to be Celine Dion - it's like in every single song she tries like hell to hit you over the head with the fact that she can sing, and beats you into submission with it.
My dad played Celine's greatest hits there and back when we went out of town a few weeks ago, and she was fucking killing me. I was like, "Damn we get it, you can sing, you can sing!" "I don't think you'd do well in captivity." - random person's comment to me the other day

I don't want to listen to anyone unless they oversing. It's my favorite vocal style! "Keep in mind that I'm an artist...and I'm sensitive about my shit."--E. Badu

I am definitely with the majority I never really liked her
outside of a few songs from Back To Basics because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind."

On her best behavior, Christina can definitely sing. And I'm one of the few people that loved to hear her scream.
I think Christina's biggest problem as a vocalist is that she trying too damn hard to be Patti LeBelle.

Yep, I have to agree. I'm not much of a fan anymore. I don't mind some of her songs, but I don't listen to her music often. She sounds horrible live too, but at least she tries and doesn't just kip-sync her way through.

I’m in the always camp. Sheee-HEEE-eee-HEEE-eeee-HEEEE-eeeee has always been afraid to just sing so she does lots of viiiii-BRAHHH-ah-AH-ah-to-oh-oH-OHHHH! and it just gets boring before the song is over. The woman needs more confidence and better management.

Over singing has become her trademark. Makes you wanna throw something at her when she starts with the acrobatics. Good singer who tries too hard.
