Can't wait! I love this album! I'll be getting the Best Buy version. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

Im surprised that Best Buy knows who DD is, i suggest checking first, they pull this BS alot and then you get into the store and its not stcoked in that location, check them online first alot of Best Buys now dont get alot of new stuff right away especially a 30 year old band. I check their weekly ad on Sunday morning and I also check online to see if they have it at the locations closest to me. I will say they did have the "deluxe edition" of Red Carpet Massacre in stock for a while (too bad it didn't contain "Cry Baby Cry" ). "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

Yeah i do the same everytime i need a new release from them, most of the new stuff i tend to get from Record Runner or Rebel Rebel here in nyc mainly because most of the stuff i need is imported or i just want it early and they get tuesday releases on Friday night. My Best Buy experiences have been horrible with certain things......EXAMPLES
There is a new INXS dvd of one of the last shows with Michael, no best buy stocked it so i ordered from amazon, i walk into Best Buy and they had it?
The Hall and Oates and Jayhawks Box Sets were listed as being stocked than when i got to the location (midtown 5th ave location) not only didnt they stock it, i had to tell them who Hall and Oates were.
So im pretty much done with them unless its something i know is there and they got it.
AS for dd i have gotten the cd just now in NYC, and im loving the bonus tracks, i was worried because the 9 track album was perfect, and i worry when things get bloated to 14, but 2 are instrumentals for the most part and the other new tracks could have easily made that 9 track album, totally in the feel of the record.

I was able to pick up the physical import copy yesterday at a store in NJ - evidently they got it early. The extra tracks are great - - it's an outstanding CD overall.
"The Man Who Stole a Leopard" is an amazing track. * * *

yeah i think "leopard" to this day, since the digital release, is possibly the best song they have done since the "Chauffeur" they created a great creepy aura with that song, plus the "real" newscaster was excellent to add on, it really goes back to what i said, the bands from the early 80's all are pulling out their best work now, by just going to what made them, not copying, but just working with those limitations, the proof has been going on for a few bands now. I agree, it is absolutely as strong as anything they've ever done. * * *

I really hope it does well for a veteran band. I really want them to continue making music.

Well i think DD is doing all they can with the promo, they have always had that ability, since they know they can sell something in the USA, the name is still known, they still tour here, but i also would keep the promo going worldwide, i think the world market is much more important than here, though people dont view it that way, you really need these other territories even more than the US, its a good market to have, but its not make or break by any means. But i think with the promo and a tour, just the exposure of the streaming concert, its all for the good. I think realistically, at least in this country, their days of having hit records are long gone. That doesn't mean they can't be successful. Pet Shop Boys hasn't had a Top 40 hit in the US since "Domino Dancing" over 20 years ago, but still sell records and have successful tours. * * *

Oh yeah i know, i think those days are over and fans of bands like this need to let that go, and also let sales go, its really a done deal in this country, if you think they are selling a million or 500,000 or even 200,000 overall, thats alot of wishing to be doing, im just glad for this record being as good as it is, at this point Duran Duran isnt going anywhere, they are beyond their stage of having to do big numbers. Tour wise all these bands do it, a-ha' last tour ranked in the Top 15 of all tours last year, now this is a band that hasnt had a hit in america since 1985 or album released in AMerica since 1993, but still they sold out all the shows here and a good % of the ones in every market they went too, thats what its about. As a band now if you can pull in close to a million sales worldwide, that is big time, sounds like nothing to the 90's thinking that most have here in the USA, but thats just the reality of it now, enjoy the music and deal with that "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

Touring is where the real money's at, but I always hope my favorite acts aren't discouraged about recording new material. There are people like me who'd rather get new music every few years and not see them in concert. I've seem them a handful of times in my lifetime.

you see this is where i feel that the whole theory of playing hits has to go out the door, i know some and maybe alot disagree, but with bands like i mention they always tend to toss in a good number of new songs from their current album alongside some faves fromt the past, thats what i feel keeps you fresh, unless u specifically call something a HITS tour, im not for that idea that you have to give a laundry list every tour, i think this is what at times discourages bands from new music, it becomes almost like making an album and then not ever playing those songs on the road, the only way to stay fresh is to include alot of newer stuff, cause lets be honest, the longtime fans are the ones that are going to the shows and they still buy the new stuff, so why not play the new stuff "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I agree that new stuff should always be played, even if it's 2 or 3 songs. I'm personally saying that I may not see them in concert anymore. My friends don't love them like I do.
In other news, the 9 track AYNIN is gone from itunes. I guess they are getting ready to replace it with the extended version by midnight.

yeah it seems that some bands can actually pull off playing new songs, hits or not, at the time, and then keeping them in the setlist. Bon Jovi is really good at this, there are quite a bit of songs that werent "HITS" that they just play live and now are staples to go with the Hits they had. Yes check first. Neither of the 2 BB's in my area (Fort Wayne, IN), had the cd/dvd deluxe edition. Only the single cd version. But I called and the BB employee told me they were on order and to check back Thursday or Friday. Just a FYI. So in the meantime I'll look forward to tv promos. Especially live stream of Unstaged concert tomorrow night. That should be cool.

I'm listening to the new album now..... I'm wondering why the songwriting sucks so bad? Nothing memorable so far. I'm on track 7.
