Where My Detroiters At?

With all the negative media coverage that Detroit is being bombarded with. Some folks just do not seem to understand what it really means to be from Detroit.

I think it needs to be clarified that...no matter where you are...NOW...in this world.

If you were raised on the streets of Detroit...it must be stated...LOUD AND PROUD that...

WE'RE DETROIT MOTHERFUCKERS 'TIL WE DIE! headbang

I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

I am so ready to lose myself...in the music...of the City that made ME!

Yet...I haven't even begun...scratching the surface...of the HEART that pumps the blood...of true Detroiters!

Somebody....better RECOGNIZE! nod

I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

I saw this thread and I had to chime in. I'm from the Virginia Park neighborhood. Grew up on 14th and Hazelwood; 2 blocks south of Clairmont and 3 blocks east of Linwood. Played ball and swam at the Rosa Parks Rec Center, worked at Joe Louis Arena, moms worked for University City A District Council for Freedom Place Projects on Trumbull and Warren, and recently moved to Palmer Park near 6 Mile an Woodward. Avidly watch Detroit 1-8-7 and watch the Lions fold every year (that's how much of a fan I am of the Lions). Detroit IS a dangerous place, but every where there's crimes and socia ills, but being from Detroit is about being prideful of the glorious things we have accomplished and recognizing and learning from past mistakes, but when I go out of town, I wear my Detroit pride on my sleeve. DETROIT WHAT!

ok, TECHNICALLY, i grew up in Ecorse. (when i saw HP representing i had to come COMPLETELY clean) but I was one street from Southwest, I claim the D! Went to Wayne State, live near there now and work off of Puritan, so yeah, Detroit up in the piece. Y

I am not phased by all the negative press, remember Nazareth was so bad, they said... "Can anything good come out of there?" So Detroit will rise again and it takes a special kind of person to see and believe that and committed to making it happen.

The Motor City =First Freeways, First Malls, First Unions, hell we STARTED this urban-suburban sprawl and gave America the IDEA of a middle class. and MUSICALLY!!?? We know what's up! I won't even name names. Well, I will. Beyond the Motown Sound, we gave the world Techno! and shall i mention gospel (The Winans, Clark Sisters, Commissioned, Fred Hammond, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Deitrick Haddon, Pajam/JMoss). I'm not a fan of Em, but props due! I remember when Kid Rock was trying to be rapper back in the days of Kaos & Mystro, Merciless Amir, and Awesome Dre and The Hardcore Committee!! Roots run deep indeed!

Yo, next time P comes thru we need to have a PROPER Detroit.org gathering!

NONSENSE

Parents divorced. Spent every summer and many holidays in the "D". Loved going to Palmer Park, Belle Isle, summer ethnic festivals, State Fair, late night softball games, Church's, malls, Mojo etc. I'm not from Detroit but I got mad love for ya.
