Jaguar Wright---Like Her OR Not???

I bought her LP once it was released(b4 she shot that video) eva since that time I didn't get sick of it at all. Its really raw and soulful music with all up on the face lyrics. Besides, her voice is full of andger and passion(love that) someppl even wnet far bay calling her the modern day Etta James.

I loved her duet with Bilal "I can't wait" the drum beat reminds me alot of Prince's drums from the 1999/controversy era and the best in there is the Patti Labelle's cover "Love Wants You And Needs You" very tight yet simple production.

Its a shame that she's under Okayplayer mangment cuz those cuz those guys didn't even bother to put a NEWS SECTION in her site. Hell, they even made that site like its something "they have to deal with".

Humm actually I was gonna buy her album solely on the strenght of her being with Okayplayer... they've never steered me in the wrong direction yet. Is the album worth getting?

Everyone who've visited me in my house listened to it and loved BUT I refused 2 lend it 2 them. Next thing, all of them bought the LP.

Its very anderrated and over-looked. If you love powerful female vocalists then you'll def feel this. I personaly could choose her anyday over Jilly from Philly.

"I Can't Wait" was recorded at Paisley on his older equipment to get that authentic Prince vibe they were wanting. You have good ears Harlepolis. smile

Not. Too angry. Nice voice, although she tends to over sing.

Nah was her own musicians I believe, ?uestlove and co. The same set who stopped by for similar setup for the final thirty seconds at end of Common's "Star*69". The later was recorded on same machine as "When Doves Cry".

Does it say recorded at Paisley Park in the credits? I only have a CD-R but had always heard so.

Actually I had my reservations about her album because ?uest and co produced her. Not a fan of those cats at all but I have to say I loved Jags album. It's a little uneven but her talent over comes this. I hope she gets with Saadiq or someone like that for her next joint though. Seems like /uest has her on the back burner.

She has potential even though her debut was patchy to me. I hear she is working with Raphael Saadiq on new material.

I'D DEFINITELY GIVE MS. WRIGHT A...

Thumbs up!

I first heard her voice on Femi Kuti's "Fight To Win" record and I've been impressed ever since.

Greaat voice although (like Patti Labelle) she tends to overdue the vocal histronics. The album was a bit wobbly in places but she has tons of potential.

I too thought the cd was patchy. I don't listen to it. I think she can sing, but I'm not really feeling it.

Exactly,,thats what I've alwaysed thought of Miss Wight nod the same trashy mouth, the same "tell-it-like-it-is" atittude, the same angry voice and the same honesty. Except that, Jaguat came from a very strict Christian household and grew all of her life in Church not only that but I heard that they(she and her sbilings) weren't allowed to hear radio.

Essence-Nope, it says that they recorded it in Philly and mixed in Philly and I think NYC too. There isn't any mention of Paisly.

Hmmm I've certainly read it was recorded at Apisley park, in interviews by ?uestlove etc. Interesting though, maybe it was just recorded on old equipment from Paisley.

I hope that is a joke.
The production on this album is one of the worst the Soul Aquaris dudes have done.
