Morris Albert ~ Feelings You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

This is one of those songs that people make fun of but I like it

...same here. Hopefully Morris Albert made a ton of money off of it (though it probably all went to the record company).

i can't believe "my" O'Jays recorded that crappy song.
I was hoping you wouldn't find this song.

I swear if I had cats, they'll be screaming bloody murder once hearing it. Hell my dog would've probably been screaming too.

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that the only people that like this song are the one's that remember it from when it was first released, and anyone born after 1980 probably hates it, and only remembers it as a joke. The song was so popular and well loved when it was first released that after a few years of the media (radio & television) playing it so much, that the song began to get parodied a lot. Next thing you knew, the song was EVERYWHERE. After a while, it was just way too much and the joke got run into the ground.
But some of us remember when it was just a fresh, new, nice tune. It was 1974, and sappy love songs were the order of the day, lol.
Remember these other HITS from 1974?
...and so forth, lol. It was a different time.

If it helps, I was born in 1984.

Well, that would at least fit my theory, lol.

Nope, was much alive in 1974'. I've hated that damn song when it was released and for the life of me couldn't understand who was listening to that mess.
Paul Anka? I've hated everything he has ever written including the Mr. Sinatra's hit, "My Way".

I enjoyed the version by The O'jays and in Nina's hand, that song went deep and sorrowful. Wow, I was seriously moved by her, I know only vaugely of her mental stability but damn if she wasn't one hardcore perfomer who wouldn't let people fuck around during her show. All in all its not that cheezy of a song. Jeux Sans Frontiers

Maybe it just depends on who's performing it. Nina can turn any song into her OWN anyway.
