Wow! I thought I was the only one that didn't care for it. The press reviews were raving about how great it is. I'm only a casual fan of their music though. I think it's is very well produced, performed and sang but the songs don't really grab me or stay in my head like their older hits. I much prefer their previous record RCM to this.

Yeah the Best Buy here on 44th and 5th avenue, one of the biggest shopping areas in Manhattan had 2 copies, not even in the new release section, so be warned if they say in stock online that they may not have many at all. Wowugotit said: I'm listening to the new album now..... I'm wondering why the songwriting sucks so bad? Nothing memorable so far. I'm on track 7. "Being Followed," the title track, and "Girl Panic" were stuck in my head almost immediately. "Runaway Runaway" was the one that crept up on me. I dont buy into that whole "songwriting" thing, it may be more simpler, but really, come on have you heard some of their hits, lets be real on the songwriting front, not all great songwritng has to have great messages and confusing passages and shit like that, i mean REM supplys lyrics to confuse, DD doesnt, but i mean things like "Leopard" rank with their best songs ever clearly. One of their best albums to date "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

Yeah I don't know why anyone would expect Duran Duran to be lyrical geniuses but their songs actually are catchy and great.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Yeah they have always written very slick pop songs, sure sometimes deeper than others, but, i wouldnt have considered them on such a high lyrical scale, but still, its a craft to write a catchy pop song just as it his to write a Bob Dylan like song or Radiohead etc... Lots of pissed DD fans over on itunes. I was reading the comments, you cannot "complete the album". It is 11.99 for everyone (the 9 track digital came out on 12/21/10).

Exactly! I'd rather have catchy over intelligent. lol.

I can imagine, that is awkward, im glad REM didnt do that, they gave away half the album free with singles here and there on iTunes if you caught them, but when the album came out i noticed you could complete the album, i bought the cd so it didnt matter but cool for others. With DD i have 2 of this album plus the digital from back then. Had to get the BB version for the two tracks. I bought a physical version from J&R today only that has 15 tracks and a DVD. ("Early Summer Nerves" I got from youtube). Still need "Too Close to the sun". As far as I know that is all the tracks. Can't believe there are 2 interludes.

My Best Buy here in Newport News has over 30 copies of the deluxe edition. So excited to see the new tracks! I acquired them when it leaked, but I've been waiting to listen. I love this album! "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

I was wasn't born when Duran Duran were huge back then. I'm 23, but I've listening to some of there stuff in the past couple of days.
And I really like Planet Earth and The Reflex.
They are really talented.
Sad how today's mainstream music lacks this sort of appeal.

^ Man that looked and sounded very cool. The mix on headphones sounded great. Nice stereo mix. Visually, most def a David Lynch production. lol. I wonder if this whole show will be released on DVD at some point? I'd love to watch this show through my home theater system. Hmm. Wonder if it's "out" there. Fantasy is reality in the world today. But I'll keep hangin in there, that is the only way.

Simon Le Bon is such an unconventional lyricist. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a collection of his poems.

I would think there is some plan like that being they went through all this effort for it, my guess is that they would want to get it out there on DVD and make something off of it, along with the tour. yeah this song stuck to me listen one as did many on this album back when i got the digital 9track version. This would be a great single/video, but as usual the problem would be "airplay" which no matter how good, it wont get that, at least in AMerica "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

I am fascinated and frustrated with this release because of all the random "exclusive" stuff!!
FYE has an uncredited bonus "remix" if anyone has any idea what it is that would be great!

The "Deluxe Edition" on Amazon and at most stores features Network Nation while the Best Buy version has an additional 2 bonus tracks.
WTF why not just put them all up in one place. I mean in a way it is fun to hunt but for real I gotta buy 3 albums to get the complete album? Oh Duran Duran....
The album is SO good though!! I love "Other People's Lives" and "Network Nation" the most but really this is a killer just push play album. I am so glad these guys still make real music with real instruments and real creativity.

I understand that, it is a bit confusing too, this happend to me before back in 2008 when Rick Springfield released "Venus in Overdrive" heres what happend.....
[b] Best Buy Version contains bonus tracks "Jessies Girl (acoustic) and My generation (who cover) itunes Version contains bonus track "pretty little mess" All "physcial cds" purchased were allowed website pass for Bonus Track of "who killed rocknroll" ANd then just popped up a version with "Celebrate Youth" (reggae Version) this is unknown where it came from.
so you really had to mix and match, but to be honest, its good business because this album debuted in the Top 30 in 2008, and for Rick that was his biggest debut on the Top 200 albums chart...ever. good point! and obviously it is working as i do plan to get every song i can i hope they do chart well, even though charts are a bunch of BS.

I agree. Why not have 1 album with 16 songs for everyone? It can be very confusing and annoying.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Yeah it worked when the Springfield one came out too, got one from his site, which contained some other stuff (ddint list that one lol) the Best Buy version for their bonuses and website key tracks, and then the iTunes version which was annoying for one track to have to download the whole thing again, the bonus track was "album only" now it isnt though, and then i lucked into the "Celebrate Youth" version an found it online on another version of the cd, very strange.
