Game is the first of what will assumedly be many to record a song in Nate Dogg’s honor.
On Wednesday (March 16th), hip hop suffered a tremendous loss losing West Coast veteran singer Nate Dogg, who passed due to complications after years of enduring two strokes.
In Nate Dogg’s honor, rapper Game released a song today (March 17th) titled “All Doggs Go To Heaven (R.I.P. Nate Dogg)”. The song details Game’s friendship with Nate Dogg, as well as acknowledging what a fan the fellow West Coaster is of the whole Dogg Pound.
Fans of Nate Dogg and Game had a few things to say about the track.
“Shoutout to The Game for making that #AllDoggsGo2Heaven track. R.I.P. Nate Dogg!” @Buddiction stated via Twitter. “y'all gotta listen to this tho,” tweeted @OGKidoubleD about the poignant track.
The comment sections of various hip hop blogs and sites were filled with some interesting points as well.
NahRight.com user rex hussla stated, “Maaaan…Nate Dogg is one of the most prominent figures in my upbringing, especially out here on the West Coast.” However, pointing out that a reckless lifestyle isn’t the way to go. “The whole eat whatever drink whatever smoke whatever all day everyday way of life isn’t going good for our heroes though. People need to take better care of themselves. That s--t is rough on your body.” On the track Game even points out he’s going to, “Get high and just drink til this 40’s done.”
On HipHopDX.com, user Almar had praise for Game’s tact. “When Game is Beefing with someone he always puts that artist in they're place,” the user says, “but when he's paying respect he always does it the right way. Classy S--t.” “First tribute song for a great man for hip hop music: R.I.P. Nate. Game always show respect,” another DX user Troy McClure cosigns.
Game’s “All Doggs Go to Heaven (R.I.P. Nate Dogg)” even includes a sample of Nate Dogg’s catch phrase “Hold up!” from Dr. Dre’s classic cut, “The Next Episode.” Nate Dogg was one of hip hop’s most revered and famed hook singers and will be greatly missed.
